I followed Pandlouk's instructions to the letter (thanks!) and happily had a working set up with Win 7 (x64) & Win XP (x86) in different FD-ISR snapshots but although XP snapshots are working well & copy/ update without problems there are major issues with the win 7 snapshots. All Win 7 snapshots boot well and behave normally but when copying/ updating both snapshots & archives FD-ISR freezes for up to 5 minutes during the Preparing to Copy/ Indexing stage usually around the time indexing gets to around 3800 files.
Win 7 snaphots are all x64, all do not yet yet have AV/ Firewalls/ HIPS but have other programs installed. I've tried to see if any of these could be the cause of the problem but there doesn't seem to be a definite culprit.
I wondered whether it was a conflict with Windows Search in 7 and tried disabling that but problem of 'freezing' continues.
Has anybody else had similar problems or can suggest a solution/ new way forward?

It's a windows problem, not an FD-ISR one.
Vista and 7 on some machines take ages to perform even a scandisk during boot time.

Thanks Panagiotis - you were right, it was a Windows 7 fault. My WMP music database was corrupting and FD-ISR was choking on the huge number of cover art jpegs that each snapshot was building up. Problem was solved by running WMP 12 as Administrator to build up the Music Library and then reverting to standard user in WMP afterwards.
