How much of a performance hit does the system take when using Returnil?

Thanks! By the way, I entered two email addresses and received the same license. I guess the license is generic.

When I first heard of it,I thought wow! Then when I installed it and saw what it does first hand, then I knew it was a keeper.

    Yes, you are very correct.

Returnil WON'T protect you from Keyloggers and malware that steal data.

It uses the F-PROT engine as its AV, but that is NOT sufficient for keylogger protection.

You will need some sort of HIPS/Sandbox, Firewall, and/or anti-keylogger program(s) to deal with data-stealing malware. ;) :thumb:

    Not quite correct.
Keyloggers/malware etc would only be able to steal data if they were installed on the Real system/hard drive before Returnil was activated. If you have "Trust Programs from the real disk only" checked under Virus Guard (as you should have, no point in using Returnil if you don't) they wouldn't be able to run even if you had just downloaded them into the browser, Returnil would stop them from installing and running as soon as they tried to activate.

I have the 2010 Home Free version - Works great & I would highly recommend it.

    But,
I guess I took it for granted that most people use partitions and / or separate drives. That's where all my "safe/saved stuff" goes to while running Free Lux version to another partition. Anything I choose not to move to my "safe/saved partition" will be gone on re-boot.

or does the files manager allow you to install programs that will stick (through a re-boot)? If it allows you to install, then I get it, if not why not just add partitions?

any info would be appreciated, Thanks

    Hi demoneye,
The following should get you sorted:

    1. click the quarantine icon in the alert message to send the file to quarantine
    2. Open the quarantine list (preferences > Virus Guard TAB)
    3. Select the file that is in question
    4. Click the restore button and then select the option that will add the file to your AV exclusion list

This should keep the file from being detected in the future. In the interim, please send details of the detection with a sample of the detected file (in a password protected zip or rar file) to support (dash) tech (at) returnil (dot) com.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi nomajr3,
You are not entirely correct as the Virus guard will detect known keyloggers if they are downloaded or attempt to install, but the VG signatures do not contain every possible keylogger that may exist. The VG is not limited however to just a simple bundle of the Frisk engine as our implementation includes features we have developed independently (behavioral analysis and malware data).

Further, the Anti-execute (Virus guard > Additional protection options while using System Safe) will provide a means to kill an unknown keylogger that is introduced to the system while the virtualization is active.

Your suggestions of alternate solutions are valid as well, so the specific user should take time to evaluate the risks and determine the best strategy going forward...

    Hello falkor,
RVS has been able to enter a virtualized state without a restart since the 1.7x days (current version is 3.0x). Did you actually evaluate the software?

    Mike
