trying version 7. other than the shutdown and the file delete it really seems the same to me imo. i think o&o 12 is very good but its a bit bloated and has a ton of stuff ill never use. i also didnt like that it ran all the time in the backround. even after turning off everything to do with it being automatic anything it still was running. but perfectdisk does the same. one of the reasons i like puran.

edit 7 is not doing as good of a job it seems. 6.1 would fully defrag and move everything to the beginning of the drive version 7 even after a boot time left some things out in the middle of the drive scattered a bit..also has the cpu pegged at 50% nearly the whole time. also seems to use a bit more memory during the fill gaps step.

Puran cannot move some metadata files even at boot time, so it may not be due to the new version but to the current layout of your drive, unless you reinstall v6.1, and these files are moved as expected.

correct 6.1 moved them just fine. that was what i meant. going to test the perfectdisk 11 beta also.. this is the one thing i dont like about puran is the metadata files sometimes can not be moved. though on another test system i had i tried puran, pd 10, o&o and a few others and none would move those few stubborn files.

Thanks for the update. I'll probably wait for v7.1.. and keep v6.1 until then.

okay after a reboot and another defrag while in windows then yet another boot time one the files did move. so maybe it was something with the install uninstall. not sure but anyway 7 did move them finally but it is using more cpu for me and more ram as well. im sending any findings to puran

There is something strange with O&O Defrag 12 Prof.
With v12 they divide the disk in three zones. In the default configuration every zone will be handled with different settings. Objects in the 1st will be sorted by name, in the 2nd by access.

A week ago I've asked their support how they sort by access although Windows 7 will not update the last access anymore (NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate=1) ... so far no response

you can turn off the zones thing though if you want just so you know

They should tell me how they use information (access date in this case) that does not exists.

    Yep, me too.

I have asked them a question regarding boot time defrag : I think that exclusions defined in the GUI are not taken into account at boot time defrag. I'd be happy to know if you have the same behavior.

i test all defragger out there, i must admit puran is the best in many ways , no serivces run in background (like on o@o 12 , PD ) , very fast ! and also have a boot time defragger and folder / file defrag which some defragger dont have ;)

How do you determine that Puran organizes files (like MyDefrag, PerfectDisk, O&O) and not just defrags them?

Like with other defrag tools : you see it happen and you observe that free space is also being defragmented when the "Fill Gap" option is selected.

Online automatic defrag doesn't work for me, boot time works though. Anyone else noticed this?

Its icon appears in tray but then it stucks at 'Analyzing...' or '0%...'.

Their customer support as always responded very quickly, you may want to report this to them.

Not QUITE true. Both PuranADT.exe and PuranDefragS.exe run in the background (on my system), however, they together take (so far) less than 1Mb of RAM, so, yeah, it doesn't really matter anyway, lol. That being said, I agree that out of DisKeeper, PerfectDisk and Puran, Puran is so far the lightest and seems to do its job quite well.

No Puran services running on my system but I do not schedule defrags.
