Microsoft made some big strides in the second half of the year. Interested to see how 2010 shapes up now it's all MSE all the time.

Free or not, I dont think their pride is going to let them settle on being a runner-up. Unfortunatly I also hope their heads are not thinking of free market domination because that would be wrong. I agree, where this is heading only time will tell. Great product but it doesnt fill the needs of all.

I have Norton 2010 licence and have removed it in favour of MSE. System seems zippier and I don't think I am losing out as both are excellent.

MSE and WP Plus - no conflicts.

Because they have not been included in those tests, I think.

Must not be a enough of a pay off for them then to enter the test. Otherwise it would be worth the fee.

This time wasn't needed an av-comp reader to bring the news here, IBK did it himself. I would have titled this thread differently :shifty:

Well, Microsoft won GOLD for the proactive test & GOLD lowest false positives, as well as BRONZE for malware removal. All this in half a year. Can't wait to see next year :)

Symantec may be king. But the dark horse here is Microsoft. Very good results for a product which was written off a few years back. Besides the underdog has shaken up the industry with its free MSE, it may very well become the rock that upset the apple cart.

While I applaud AV-Comparatives for creating an annual summary report, I question the merit of ‘combining results’ over the calendar period to identify the best products, since: (1) some of the findings are based on the 2009 editions of the products, while others are based upon the 2010 editions—and, there can be very substantial differences between the two; and (2) the whole-product dynamic testing is so vastly superior to any of the on-demand tests that they probably shouldn’t be considered together when formulating an overall assessment.

It is looking at performance of the vendor over the year and summarising, -thats what a summary for the year will have.

For further information and insight into the performance, the individual reports are there for readers to assess for themselves should they want further details.

Yes, of course. Summarizing is fine. However, combining a mixture of product editions from the same vendor and a variety of different types of tests to name a specific product as the “best product” may, however, actually obfuscate rather than enlighten. In particular, there is such a world of difference between the on-demand versus dynamic tests that to consider both in the same breath seems unwise, in my opinion.
