You probably did get alerts from the firewall's HIPS component. Web filtering via a proxy doesn't mean that you lose all control over outbound connections. You will still get alerts when unknown, untrusted applications try to create Internet connections, which you can choose to allow or deny.

What you lose is granularity. Once the decision has been made to allow an application to access the Internet, all traffic originating from that application will be reported as having originated from the web proxy, not the application. Applications filtered through the web proxy will all share and be governed by a common set of networking rules: i.e. those defined for the proxy.

well ive seen pretty consistantly that Comodo gets themselves retested almost everytime... im guessing, they see the results, its not what they want, they "update" the program to block what was missed and boom 100% :D

but i dont use any software firewall anyways so all this test does is give me something to laugh about.

    thanks, pegr,

Does that indicate that suites offer better security than stand alone applications?

    Regards,

No, not better security; just better integration.

But with other firewalls, I will get an alert that things are going out through the loopback address. I can at least block the action.
