    Hi,

I'm experiencing an issue with the latest version of NOD32 (4.0.474.0).

It installs fine, and works fine until i reboot. After rebooting, i get the busy cursor in windows. I cannot click anywhere and ctrl+alt+del does not work.

Only solution to boot again is to enter safe mode and disable ESET services and egui from autostart.

I had no problem with 4.0.369(where can i download it?), which i uninstalled prior installing the newer version.

    TIA

    System specs:

    E6600, 4GB RAM
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    All Windows updates installed

sysinspector log available, just ask if you need it.

I had the same problem with an earlier version of 4 with Vista (on 2 pc's).

    I have to run V3.

Well it seems that the problem lies in a strange conflict between razer tarantula keyboard software v2.10, razer deathadder mouse software v2.00 and nod32 av 4.0.474.0. I need to investigate further though.

UPDATE: It is definitely a conflict with razer tarantula razerhid.exe application(it loads a tray icon for configuring the keyboard, needed for extra keyboard buttons to work).

I have it excluded from scan temporarily...

Hmm. I'm getting something similar. When cold booting 50% of the time Windows 7 hangs after the NOD32 tray icon appears. Nothing happens - just the busy cursor on screen. CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing.

It never happens from a warm boot (reboot).

I've tried uninstalling NOD32. On 8 separate cold boots (PC unplugged for at least 5 minutes between each boot) all worked fine. Installed NOD32 and after a couple of boots it started again...

I'm removing as many start ups as i can. Currently the only icons to show in the tray on start up is the NOD32 icon (have removed ePrompter and TomTom Home from the start ups), the Action Centre (no problems reported) and the LAN icon.

I've reinstalled various system drivers and hardware driver to no avail.

For me its happening for either with cold or warm (re)boots. Excluding razerhid.exe worked for a little while but i had windows hang on me few minutes ago, after logging in. For now i uninstalled razer tarantula application.

I had this happen a while back when running NOD32 v3.xxx but fortunately all the 4.xxx releases have been fine.
My problem was caused by the Razer Lachesis mouse software. In particular the onscreen sensitivity display osd.exe. I renamed osd.exe to something else so it didn't load and the problem went away although obviously I couldn't use the Razer onscreen sensitivity display.
As I said from NOD v4.xxx I no longer had the problem so I can now let osd.exe run at startup.

I am experiencing this as well on a brand new Windows 7 x64 installation on a Lenovo T500 laptop. The problem began occurring once I installed NOD32 and really happened often after I installed VMWare Workstation. I have a machine running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, a netbook running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and another box running Windows Home Server PP3 which worked without issue, but I have not been able to test them today (they all have nod32 v4 installed).

I do not have any Razer accessories installed. Just wanted to add myself to the list here so this can be addressed. I currently have to run with all Eset services disabled, which is not very desirable.

Can you all check event viewer and see if there is an entry like "The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> is taking long time to handle the notification event"?

Bungo, what version of VMWare are you using?

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64, and VMWare Workstation 7.0.0 build-203739. EAVBE 4.0.474 runs fine for me.

    Jim,

I've got the same builds of nod32 and vmware as you. I downloaded new copies of the install files for both nod32 and vmware and did clean installs, but no luck...

    Elapse,

I didn't see that in my logs, but I'm keeping an eye out.

I wound up having to use the nod32 removal tool in safe mode as I was getting permissions issues removing some of the files in the ESET directory. I've reinstalled nod32 now with a new download of the install file and will see if I can reproduce the issue again.

    edit:

Sure enough, the issue has re-appeared. I am able to login and get to my desktop, but it is soon rendered unusable. To clarify, I cannot pull up task manager nor open any applications or explorer. As soon as I boot into safe mode, disable the eset services, and boot back in normally everything works fine.

    edit part 2:

I've opened a case with ESET so that at least this goes on record as being a potential issue. I would encourage anyone having the same problem to do likewise. I also sent a link to this thread to ESET support. Thanks.

Did you try EAV 4.2 beta which has a specific subfolder of the System Volume Information folder on Lenovo notebooks excluded by default? That folder causes conflicts with various security or backup software.
