fishy? Not really. Their non-disclosure clause isn't unique & they are being upfront in advising that the Silverlight & Ask software will also be installed.

Somewhere in my reading, I noticed they mentioned that they aren't / weren't even guaranteeing that they would release a commercial product based on the beta at the conclusion of "testing". In the meantime, it's not a stretch to expect they'll receive a per-install commission from Ask and/or from Microsoft.

Privacy issues (and performance, lack of support) made me drop Webroot.

I don't have faith in antispyware applications with antivirus just as an add-on.

Removed Screen Shot and Beta Agreement post.

Whether we like a product or not, we should respect a developer's agreement and since Webroot runs a Closed Beta program, that information can not posted at Wilders. Please abide by their wishes. Thank you!

Nowhere did I see anything saying this is a closed beta.

In addition, as soon as I filled out the form and clicked Submit I got an email "accepting" me.

well in an open beta anyone can walk in and download, a closed beta is a beta wer u need to be accepeted in, even if it is easy to get in, its not an open beta like Avast is having wer u just walk onto their forums and can download and go, dont require license or nothing.

Ah...I always thought of a closed beta as one were only certain people were allowed to test.

Just because you have to fill out a short form to use, does that mean we can't post screenies?

    EDIT:

I noticed something else. And the registration page, there is a link to a video of this beta.
I assume if Webroot supports a video, then surely it will support a screenshot.

I was going to take screenshots and post them here if I got an OK, but the Webroot installer has been stuck on Downloading Files for about 10 minutes. So maybe not...

well being a closed beta doesnt mean that automatically u cant post any info or screens, like in the the EMSI A-Squared beta they encourage to give info and screenshots, it all depends on the particular vendors policy.

The WebRoot agreement you click through during the beta installation includes a non-disclosure clause. Plain as day. Black and white.

I had actually pasted the text of the clause here, in an earlier post.
A Wilders moderator removed that post; I respect his discretion in doing so.
