I'm using Panda USB Vaccine. It works fine, but I can't figure out from what location it auto-starts. Neither Winpatrol nor Msconfig have an entry for it. Does anyone know how it auto-executes? I want to be able to change some of the comandline arguments. TIA

Does it actually start? I thought it just changed some registry settings rather than running actual code to guard the ports...

Yes, it runs resident and displays an icon in the taskbar tray for vaccinating USB flash drives.

Hmmm, I'll check when I get home. Perhaps my computers are not protected.

Or is having that tray icon available an option? If given a choice I would have opted to disable the ports on my computer per se and not cared to have a tray icon for inoculating individual media.

It creates a scheduled task that runs at logon.

After poking around Panda's blog I see the source of my confusion. I used an older (pre-June, 2009) version of the USB vaccine. It did not offer the option of running at startup. That's why I did not recognize the concept.

Yes...Vaccine isn't an anti-virus, etc so it won't conflict with NIS.

Yes, I'm using it now on two PCs running Windows 7 (one x86 and the other x64) along side NIS 2010 without problems.

I see you already figured it out. Just for clarity, Panda USB Vaccine has 2 modes:

1- Disable autorun in the computer (this is a simple regkey entry).
2- Disable autorun.inf in individual USB sticks.

The second mode of operation can work as a resident tray icon that either prompts or automatically vaccinates a USB drive as soon as it is plugged into the PC. When a USB stick is vaccinated an unreadeable/unwriteable AUTORUN.INF file is created on the root of the USB drive so that malware may not modify it to run automatically. It supports FAT/FAT32 & NTFS.

The tray icon entry is under schtasks.exe.

EDIT: It can be run alongside any AV without any conflicts as it is not an AV itself.
