I am running Windows XP and this morning I did a virus scan and found two files:
    C:\Windows\LastGood\notepad.exe and
    C:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe
I restarted in Safe Mode, searched and found them and deleted them.
Tonight, I did another virus scan and found these two files:
    C:\SystemVolumeInformation\_restore(E144E665-8959-4686-AD12-B148C9C948E3)\RP454\A0041861.exe and
    C:\SystemVolumeInformation\_restore(E144E665-8959-4686-AD12-B148C9C948E3)\RP454\A0041862.exe
However, I can not find these two files anywhere...
Can someone please help me? This is the first computer virus I have dealt with and I am not very experienced!
    Thank you!
    Beth

they are in your system restore. Turn off system restore, rescan, and then turn restore back on

    Hi beth1299 :)

    Welcome to Wilders.

Looks like those 2 files are in your systems restore.

What u have to do is disable your Systems Restore, reboot and those files will be gone. Do another scan afterwards just to be sure.

Make sure u renable your systems restore afterwards and create a new restore point.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi everyone:

New here, and this is almost exactly my problem. After looking at some instructions for how to do things, this was the first post I looked at and bingo, there I was, looking at the problem I was having. Thanks for your knowledge.
