I have Nod32 v. 4.0.474.0 running on WinXp and another on Vista. The one on WinXp runs the scheduled scan when the computer is in sleep mode (Sunday 7 am). The one on Vista will not run when the computer is in sleep mode (Monday 8 am). The one on Vista runs properly when the computer is awake. Is this just a peculiarity of Vista?

"Important! If the computer is in “sleep” mode or other power-saving state, the scan will not occur. The computer must be fully powered on."

Strange that it will run on WinXP in sleep mode. Also, although I know it is not germane, on my third computer I use Antivir premium. It runs in sleep mode--both to update and scan.

No joy with my suggestion?, I'll leave you in the capable hands of the ESET Experts here. I was just passing through and thought my suggestion might be relevant.

Surely it fully depends on the OS. It's like with the wake-on-LAN feature; it's of no use if supported by software but not by BIOS / NIC. I wonder if someone has experience with the way other security software works on Vista in terms of running scheduled scans with the system in stand-by mode.

Hi jayt. I've had Nod32 AV installed on my system (XP Pro) for a couple of years now, but unlike yours, mine will not wake from hibernation mode to run a Nod32 scheduled scan.

But, thinking outloud, I'm wondering if a work-around would be to use Windows Scheduled Tasks just to wake up my pc shortly before the Nod32 AV scheduled scan is set to begin. I already use Windows Scheduled Tasks to clean my system once a week with CCleaner, and I know it wakes my pc to do so (there's a setting for that). Perhaps I could coordinate a Nod32 scheduled scan to occur after the CCleaner task while my pc is still awake.

I don't have Vista and I'm not sure if Windows Scheduled Tasks works the same way on your system. But, if it does, maybe it's something to explore.

Actually my computer is not in hibernation mode. It is in "standby mode". I have my computer set so that the monitor shuts down after 10 minutes of inactivity and the HD shuts down in 1 hour. Using this system Nod32 runs the scheduled scan at the proper time (while the computer is still in "standby mode").
In Xp you can set this function by right clicking the desktop and choosing "properties", then "screen saver", then "power". You will find the options for "turning off monitor" and "turning off HD.
    It works for me.

My computer is set to scan at 7 am on Sunday morning. No one here is up that early. :) Here is the end of the report from last Sunday's scan:
Actually, I am informed that this is not "standby" or "sleep" mode--just power saving settings.

Well I ran antivir all night. I had it scheduled to update every two hours and to scan at 7:00 am this morning. Sad to say that in Vista in power saving mode it did not update or scan. But neither does Nod32, although both will update and scan in Windows XP in power saving mode. I really don't understand it as my Superantispyware will both update and scan in Vista in power saving mode. Ah well, c,est la vie.
I would like to thank everyone who responded to my question and tried to help.

I figured out how to do it

I was wanting Nod32 to run in "power saving mode" in Vista, and I finally figured out how to do it. To disable power management in Vista you go to Control Panel, click on System and Maintenance, then click on Power Options, then select High Performance. Then you click on Change plan settings. You can select time to shut off the monitor, and leave "put computer to sleep" as never. Save.
And now Nod32 will scan when the monitor is shut off. Simple when you know how to do it. And it works. I tested it already.
This means I can continue to use Nod32 as the AV for all of my computers.

    A quick follow-up...
This work-around seems to have worked. A few days ago, I created a task using Nod32's Scheduler to scan my system at 6:30 this morning (Monday). Knowing my pc would be hibernating (which prevents Nod32 from running the scheduled scan), I made a small text message* using Notepad, saved it to My documents, and then used Windows Scheduled Tasks to wake up my computer, run Notepad, and open that text message at 6:25 this morning. When I got up for work this morning, I was greeted with my text message being displayed on my screen along with Nod32 happily scanning my system.

( * the text message says "An On-demand scan is scheduled to run this morning.")
