Please forgive me if this kind of post has already been made.

I bought a new PC and the security I have on it so far is NOD32 and Online Armor (paid version). What would be the best antispyware program? And should I also get both a "real time" AND on "on demand" antispyware program?

    Thanks.

Nod32 has a strong antispyware and antivirus engine plus proactive defense:thumb: ,also online armor has a strong hips engine that can stop spywares dead even keyloggers but if you want more protection i will recomend malwarebytes pro this one makes spyware and trojans looks like a joke:D it's ip protection will not let you get infected when visiting an infected website:thumb: :thumb:

You could run either Malwarebytes (free version) or A-squared (free version) as on-demand scanners.

SuperAntispyware and MBAM have both real time and on demand scans in their paid versions.

    Thank you to all.

I think I'll buy SuperAntiSpyware Pro and also take a look at Malwarebytes'.

    Thanks again.

I have not seen any reliable test that shows SAS or MBAM have any significant realtime protection ability. On demand scans and removal of malware, they both are pretty good. But their paid versions are probably not really not that great. I have a paid version of SAS on two computers and don't run either real time.

But on my laptop I have Online Armor and Nod32 supplemented with Prevx free version. SAS, MBAM and Hitman Pro for on demand scans as well.

I would definitely go for Prevx free running real time alongside Nod32 and just have MBAM and SAS as on demand only.

Yes, I remember. After detection you can then get a second opinion and proceed with another program to clean/remove if needed.

agree with you but can not take this chance when dealing with rootkits they are very hard to remove malware and when install/execute alot evil stuff follow after makinf this almost imposive to remove and some time the only way out is a nice format:D
Prevention is always better than the cure:)

Hitman Pro would be another good program for on-demand scans.

    Re: AnitSpyware Suggestions?

These days, the good AVs and suites also cover 'spyware'. 'Viruses' and 'spyware' have blended into malware.

I would not recommend a separate antispyware application. Just another real-time scanner, with at best limited protection, and potential for conflicts.

av-comparatives.org can show you some tests of AVs. Not every aspect of a suite/AV is tested, for example HIPS or Sandboxes, but I'd only consider one that has a high detection rate.

Whether NOD32 is up to the job, I don't know. Discussions of AV A vs. AV B are not allowed per TOS.

I would suggest getting a good imaging setup, hardware (for example, external harddisk) and software (example: Acronis). It's not all free, but if you know how to use it it's worth the money.

As acr1965 says, "I have not seen any reliable test that shows SAS or MBAM have any significant realtime protection ability." I've heard the same thing and I'm wondering If Pevx 3.0 would be a valuable addition to either SuperAntiSpyware Pro or to MAB.

MBAM is really good against known threats, but it didnt do well when I threw some 0-Day stuffs towards it.

Did you pull these samples through IP protection when you downloaded them ?

If so PM me the links and I will add them to our master list for research .

    Thanks in advance .

Yes, I checked those against Realtime Protection and IP Protection. Actually what I was trying to say, it didnt pickup the threats I tested while they were relatively new, but all of them were detected after around 2-3 days (Not to mention some other top-rated AVs did the same result against 0-Day).

But if you are interested I can PM you links of some hacking-related forums where they sell every nasty stuffs, from FUD (I have often tested on Virustotal and got 0/41 results, and after 3-4 days it would be detected by at least 10!) Stealers, RATs to everything! I often pickup my samples from there.

I would highly recommend Web of Trust. Set to block and have it set to block yellow, orange and red and your good to go. :D

WOT is only good for websites known for sometime, NOT for malware providing hosts which will come up and go within 2-3 days. Also WOT sometimes will give false alerts as its based on community ratings. And you are getting kinda off-topic. The poster asked for "AnitSpyware Suggestions".
