Quick question: Can it uninstall cleanly? (no trace of it being left behind)

OK, I admit to being in the slow group, but considering I have 3 months to activate the license code, will the license be good for 12 months from that time or now?

I realize that somene can say that I should be able to figure that out from the posts so far, but I am not sure of the answer. One thing about being old is that one expects much from you.:D

I want to try Avast 5, and then go to A-squared after it has had a chance to shake out some.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Jerry, I believe that it means today is the start date and you have 3 months to activate it. Once you activate it in those 3 months it will show 11/11/09 as the start date. If you don't activate it within 3 months it will automatically expire. You can wait up to 3 months, which should be plenty of time till avast 5 comes out. I hope.

I speculate From that time, not now.....

Anar Posted what I believe is correct in Post #197, and that is:

The count down starts the day one enters the "License Coupon" referred to as the "License code:" from the Original Email into
the "Convert coupon code" link located in their Account under "Manage Licenses" and Activates it, when Activated, it is now considered "used", however,
this must be confirmed by an Emsi Software Representative before it can be considered official......see Post #196.....

There is no such thing as old, only ripened.....:D

As I understand it, you have three months from now to convert your coupon code within your new account and the one year subscription will start as soon as the activation is made. Sure Christian from Emsisoft can confirm this.

Yes, that makes logical sense.....the one year subscription starts the Day the Activation is made by the client.....

    Thanks, All for the replies.
I am going to wait until I trial Avast 5, and read the comments by those who trial it here.
One fear I have of FP is that if deleted there will be damage to the registry. I would have not idea how to fix that, and also don't have an image of my system. So I may be overly cautious.

I don't recall which anti malware program it was, but I had a weather program on my system. I had used it for years with several top AVs. Then a new one identified it as malware and removed the whole program.
    Thanks again.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Being without an image backup is a bad idea. When you have an image to fall back on you can easily fix any problem. ShadowProtect has been 100% reliable for many of us on Wilders. There are also free options available. Before trying any more AV's I suggest you get an external hard drive and image backup software.

I don't know if you guy's have looked at VB100 web page but the results for Ikarus is horrible! I know it's just one test, however most major players still participate in the VB100 testing. Any thoughts?

After looking at alot tests, Vb100, malware.ru, av-comp, etc I've noticed a few things. One is that all the AV programs vary in their detection. Look at avira on the vb100. It failed by missing one wild list. When was the last time avira had a poor dectection rate? Last month I belive that KIS had a 95% detection on av comp. If you want to make a certain AV look bad just wait till a random compartive comes out from somewhere. Two, anyone can make a test that is going to make a certain AV looked good. Bottom line, don't believe everything you read

I was using A2 free with Ourpost and since yesterday the full version of A2 with Outpost. I am (since yesterday) running the following (temporarily) Outpost pro, MBAM, A2 AM and DefenseWall. They seem to work together very well thus far. The only problem I noted is that with A2AM I can open but not close Photoshop CS3. I have to exit the A2 background guard first. Otherwise no problems at all. Computer running faster also (then with latest version of Kaspersky AV).

I agree with you. If you look at not just 1 test from VB100 but many months you will see they did bad in all the tests. If you look at Avira or others you will see that the track record over time is very good. Most of the top rated programs score well in most tests.

3759 wildlist misses is a lot!!! Ikarus certainly does not have a good track record with VB. Keep in mind that A2 also has their own AV engine along with Ikarus.

It would be interesting to see what the results would be if they tested A-squared. I know that it is a AV test but a-squared does have a better track record then just having Ikarus tested. When tested as the full A-squared suite it usually gets a 99% and ranks up there with Avira.

Your right, I would like to see that. Virusbuster & Outpost Security Suite score about the same, they have the same a/v engine. I know it's just one test, I have that free license for A2 but I am having 2nd thoughts about installing it. I use Mamutu & really like it, I have some interest in A2.
