Does ESS 4.0.467 contain the Windows 7 compatibility fixes such as the 1052 firewall and a fix for doing an in-place upgrade from Vista to Windows 7?

Does it contain the fixed program modules, released after 4.0.437, that solve the Vista SP2 upgrade issues?

I have had a bit of a nightmare with this.

Took the Windows 7 compatability wizard at it's word and did an ugrade as it said I had no conflicts, hadn't read this thread.

Now having real trouble keeping a stable conection to the net. Tried ideas in Fliplip's and Proactivelover's with some success for a short while but eventually I loose the connection again and only get it back if I uninstal Eset.

Tempted to try a fresh install of Windows 7 but from other posts it seems that might not even solve the problem.

    Playing havock with punkbuster also.

Hopefully Eset will issue an up[date soon that solves all this. Till then would advise staying clear of 7.

    Cheers

I'm sorry to say this but I would advise staying clear of ESS.
    EAV is working fine though.

I have upgraded windows vista to windows 7 build 7600 from MSDN, and I had to uninstall ESET and reinstall due to the Firewall initialization problems.

However, now I have noticed two Devices in Device Manager with an alert symbol, WAN Miniport (IP) and WAN Miniport (IPv6) Eset Personal Firewall Miniport, which windows reports as a failure to load the drivers.

The firewall does seem to work fine and no other errors are shown.

    Any ideas what's that about?

    Thank you,

@Aspace .. Why is that a risky procedure?
What method would you suggest that we use to remove ESET Smart Security?

After reading the this thread, it would appear that what was said by Cudni is the correct procedure.

The entire upgrade from Vista --> Win 7, with ESET SS seems to be problematic.

    Cheers :D

For me ESS is working great with Windows 7.. No problem what-so-ever..

Did a Clean install from Vista to Windows 7.. It have never been a good idea to upgrade from one OS to another anyway.

And i have done this on 2 other computers, and there is no problem..

So, Dont upgrad from Vista to Windows 7.. Do a Clean Install..

SOMEONE SOMEWHERE CAN SAY ME IF ESET SMART SUITE LAST VERSION IS COMPATIBLE OR NOT TO WIN 7 ??
I read all these thread and i stil confuse about it
I dont want an half compatibility or an firewall disable because compatibilty problem
Can i still trust my smart suite ??

Do i continue to use my ESet license or must i change for another security soft

Like i wrote in my post above.. It works great with Windows 7.
But then again, i have only tryed with a Clean install...
And that only took like 2 hours, including installing all my software. So for me, that not along time..

Be safe, do a Clean Install... It have always sucked to do a Upgrade, no matter what people say. There will alway be some kind of conflicts.

i upgraded to 64 bit 7 HP, clean install on a new drive, no other software. i have been with v3 for a long time, thought i better update to v4, everything was fine untill i rebooted, then all kinds of firewall problems, messages about corrupted files etc. gave up after the 3rd clean re-install. all my games (94) are working fine i just cant get smart to run properly, will wait untill next build maybe.

blimey good to see the competition can't compete. back to eset after less than 1 day. just nod 32 though.

1 64-bit desktop and 1 32-bit laptop - no problem. Same problem as noted in previous post with another 32-bit desktop...installed fine, rebooted, and the firewall was broken. Tried 3 times and on each reboot, the firewall was broken and the system kept complaining about a Raid controller (only after the security suite was installed - after an uninstall and reboot, no such Raid controller message).

Farmand - nice idea but it's absolutely ridiculous that one piece of software (the only software I've had a problem with on 3 upgrades) should dictate whether you upgrade or do a clean install of the OS.

It sure is not good, that it is that way.. But then again, i have not tryed a Upgrade from on OS to another, and i will never do that..

Clean Install is always the best solution..

I've recently upgraded my Vista HP to Windows 7 HP and it wasn't a clean install so i still had all my files, programs and ESS installed. Then ESS says firewall module disabled. i could not activate it. Looked for help on Google found a post saying un-install ESS and re-install.

I did just that and it worked successfully. :)

I did the same thing but when I install Eset SS 4 it will not let me go online at all. When I uninstall Eset everything works. I need to get Eset back on, I feel naked with out it installed.

    Hi all

How to solve the issue we all have? Read my solution.:D

After the upgrade from Vista-Pro (32b) to Windows 7 Pro (32b), ESET Smart security (v4.0.437) firewall was not working properly and was disabled…
Worth, after a reboot, both LAN and WAN connections were lost ! My local Network and work group despairs and a new one was created named “unknown network”. When looking under detailed properties of this new connection, everything seems to be ok, BUT no more connections to my local network and Internet…

How to solve this issue: I did it with the great help of Stephane (Support Manager ESET France)
Please follow the steps as described!!! (With Windows 7 installed : upgraded or full install)

I’m French so my English is quite poor: Sorry for that.

1-Go to ESET Web site, download and save on your computer the last version of SS4 (v4.0.467)
2-Uninstall SS4 with Start> Program> ESET> Uninstall: Don’t go to control panel “Add and Remove”!
    3-Reboot your compter
4-Launch the SS4 installer, you downloaded at step 1
5-When install has finished, you can note that everything about your network is working fine again :p , BUT...o_O
    6-Reboot your computer
7- Your Network is again out of order: no LAN, no WAN connection…   DONT’T PANIC!o_O
8-Right click, in the systray, on the Network icon and click on “open Network center and share”
9-Click on the option “modify the network card” in the left side of the window (2d item)
10-In the new window, right click on the Network connection icon and left click on “property”
11-Uncheck the box “ESET Personal Firewall” than click “Ok”
    12-Close all the opened windows
    13-Reboot your computer
14-Miracle  !!! Your LAN and WAN are working back again!!! Better than that: your firewall seems to work properly. No more warning message from ESET SS4 and Windows 7 about the firewall !!! BUT
    15-Go back to step 8 and do steps 8 to 10 o_O
16-Check back again the box “ESET Personal Firewall” than click “Ok”
    17-Close all the windows
    18-Reboot your computer

The issue is solved: Everything is working like a charm with no trouble at all!!!:D :D :D

It’s a quite long procedure but it’s safe and works 100% : (for me !):argh:

    Hope it will help you,
    Best regards,
    Claude (France)

Well heck. I wish I this would have been posted before I did a clean install. The clean install fixes this issue as well, but it would of took way less time to do the above steps to fix the firewall issue. Nice post Claude_FR this will help a lot of people.

"err"? I don't anderstand the meaning...

Before, making this procedure, I did what you want to do but did not work at all... Whatever you do, at the end, you will have to follow this procedure.:doubt:

It looks quite complicate but in fact it's easy to do IF you follow the steps as discribed...

    Regards

I followed exactly what Claude has suggested above, but I STILL cannot use ESET, have a nice red ESET ESS icon in the taskbar, and the personal firewall has failed to initialize. It connects to the router (as I can open the Routers admin settings fine wirelessly), but it does not give me any Internet access, it's like it's blocking all web traffic.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled ESS 4 numerous times today following my upgrade from Vista>7 (and I did uninstall ESS 4 prior to starting the Windows Upgrade).

The ONLY way I can get online is basically to remove ESET ESS 4 completely and engage the windows firewall .. which obviously leaves me open to viruses and whatnot - and as I've paid for ESS, I would actually like it to work!

Any suggestions as I am getting increasingly frustrated!!

I should add, I've also followed these instructions and still no good!

Further to my post above, I gave up with it in the end and have reverted back to Vista using a backup image I made before I upgraded to 7.

Until ESET work out a solution that works by default, without users having to jump through hoops to get it to work, then I'll stick with using it on Vista.

Just seems a common problem and still no "works for all" solution.

Just did upgrade from Vista to 7 (32 bit) and did not see any problems at all.
    ESS is working just fine.
I just followed all the recommendations on the Eset website.
Basically downloaded lastest version of ESS and left the file on the desktop.
Uninstalled ESS using the programs uninstall option (Not the Windows uninstall)
    Delete folders C:\Program Files\ESET and C:\Program Data\ESET
    Upgraded to Win 7.
    Ran the ESS installer file.
Enabled ESS Pre-Release Updates (an option in the ESS advanced update setup).
I had an orange icon at some point showing not complete protection, but ESS had a message saying to run windows update which fixed it.

I added one step to your procedure.
Before I UNinstalled ESS, I exported my settings. Then when I REinstalled ESS, I imported the settings.
Mine is also working great on both a 32bit and 64bit Win 7.
    Cheers :)

I have to say that, despite the problem with ESS blocking WMP's Remote Control function with a stupid preset rule (ICSLAP) the firewall 1054 is working pretty well with My Win7.

Hope they keep improving compatibility and usability as well as security of the firewall.

I have tried all the prescribed methods to get the personal firewall to work to no avail. No matter how many times I uninstall (even followed the directions for a manual uninstall) and reinstall it will not let the firewall work. I even tried Claude's method and nothing. I still get "The Personal Firewall is disabled most likely due to its installation being corrupted. We recommend that you reinstall ESET Smart Security as soon as possible."

If I go into the advance setup and disable the personal firewall the rest of the suite behaves normally though. This is very frustrating and any help would be appreciated.
