Trend Micro Interent Security enable USB Share printer

I have got one of my client has got a simple office network with three PCs (2 desktops A and B and one laptop C,,,,,all of them have got Vista Home edition).

Those desktop are connected through a modem router.

He bought a computer B recently and it has a Trend Micro Internet Security installed on it,,,,,,,a USB printer is connected to this B PC to be shared with A and C.

The other two PCs have not got Trend Micro Internet Security (I am aware of security implication , this is not the issue of our thread)

the printer is shared but A and C can not ping and can not print.

I am sure that the problem lies with the Firewall setting for Trend Micro Internet Security, because when I shut down it from A and C I can ping the B and I can print ,,,,while when Trend Micro Internet Security is running I can not ping B and I can not print.

I tried to search how to configure firewall to enable printer sharing I could not find that

Any idea how to configure the firewall to enable a printer sharing ?

I know you want this to just work and it should, but for "Plan B" I recommend removing Trend Micro. If PCs A and C need protection why not buy one of the suites with a three PC license and be done with it? You can install trial versions of various products on B to confirm proper printer sharing first.

Wouldn't other firewalls create the same issue with sharing a printer ? How can I assure if other firewall will be smooth ?

Is is on Minimum, as can been seen in the figure below , Firewall now is off to be able to print

192.168.0.x/24

One more thing I was trying to disable firewall by following the instructions in the link below

But as far as i remember I could not find the checkbox for "Activate the Personal Firewall " to put a checkmark!!!!!

Therefore I disabled it from "Personal Firewall" tab as can be seen in the previous snap shot.

I currently just have the trial version installed on an XP VM (I will try to find time a little later to install Vista if we cannot sort this out with settings)

The trial version I have installed:-



Enable the firewall to the settings you normally have, then please check the following advanced settings to ensure netbios is allowed, they should be the same as the pic.
Then try to connect to the printer.



If it fails, then please check the firewall logs for any blocked packets, and post that section of the log:-

Right now I am not at client office, but am pretty sure that NetBOIS is enabled because I had checked that. but I will match every one with your pic.

Install the trial version of a product and then test to see if printing works - it should just work. I see that Stem is helping you with Trend Micro, but personally I would not bother with a product that required so much configuring just to get printing to work across the LAN. This is a standard service and should be "pre-configured" IMHO. But good luck getting TM to work and keep us informed.
