Online Armor 3.5.0.XX released - no need for threads for each minor version!

When is this update going to land in America with the auto-update? I"m already impatiently waiting for Windows 7 and a new watch from Amazon.

 

Too bad I had to uninstall OA Premium. NO support for Windows 7. OA is great software. Support is great. Marketing is errrr....ummmm....whatever. I was about to renew my license. Yes, they are late!

Releasing beta version for public would have save me lol.

Well, I am using PC Tools Firewall Plus now.

 

Windows 7 is still in beta. How long after Vista was released did it take for software apps to support it?

at least i can share you opinion about support a little bit - i was really upset at last.
beta was announced for a closed circle this week.

 

As far as i remember TallEmu released OA version compatible with Vista OS in October 2008. So this time when they release compatible version of OA with Win 7 in October '09 then it will be pretty fast.

 

I would bet on getting it for Christmas.

Are you guys sure Windows 7 is still in beta? HSN released Gateway Laptop with Windows 7 on it ready to go. Sold like hotcakes today dirt cheap.

windows 7's code has been finalized for a while now, just hasnt been released till its specified release date, vendors and other people like that get it early tho of course.

Yep, when you provide "block all traffic during boot" or "enhanced startup protection" for the free version, there is little incentive to buy the premium IMO. I remember some direct e-mail contact one and half years ago, where I asked you about this.

TIP:
1) Address the features issue after you have outlined clearly which customer group(s) you target for paid.

2) Learn from the past, analyse the percentage of customer migration of the past (from free to paid), set this into a chart and add the time intervals on which you released new features (and what) of the free version and paid version (so you can see what effects some features had).

3) With your customer target group in mind, make a simular chart (features + releases) of your main competitors. See what influence this had (also on the growth or reduction of freeware users and growth in paid users).

4) Analyse this with your main engineers and set up a brainstorm with the following questions
a) what would be the tag line of OA premium (tag line tells the essence of what OA premium stands for and provides to the customer group)
b) what features do we want to get paid for (taking this tag line in mind and taking our development costs in mind)
c) for each feature tackle the following questions
- what is the media attention of the threat this feature provides a solution for
- how easy is it to understand the severity of this threat for the average user, and for our target user (some threats have a high media attention but are not understood by the average PC user, so it won't be a buy incentive)
- can the advantage of this feature be communicated in max three sentences
- does it reduce the user interaction - chance of making mistakes
- do customers understand this features requires updates/maintenance (which makes it easier to ask a yearly lisence fee)
- is it something our competitors have or lack


5) Think of alternative lisencing schemes with your sales/marketing guy/girl:
a) e.g. a freeware lisence for max one year, after this period the freeware version will provide less functionality
b) a lite and a premium version with different lisencing structure, since so many users are happy with the freeware version, when they pay a small amount (say 50% of the premium), they get boot protection and updates in the 9.9x range (so 3.51 to 3.52 but not from 3.58 to 3.60 and 3.8 to 4.0)
c) a different lisensing structure for the premium, e.g. (without AV) only buy a new lisence when product goes from 3.8 to 4.0 and detach support from the lisence fee (when you buy a lisence you get a year support for free, after that year you can buy support for 50% of the current renewal price)

6) Review your tag line and enhance it,
- check whether it fits the target groups you want to address,
- google with the key words of this tagline and see what comes up (it is owned by a competitor, is it used in a context you do not want to be associated with, is it a domain you could claim since it does not have so many references, is it confusing because it is used in a totally different branch/product/market segment)
- like A2 has, split offical support from "power users help users" forum (makes only sense when you split support from lisence)


7) Use your existing customers to sell and tell (provide feedback)
- for instance when a customer brings in a new customer, they both get a free support year or renewal lisence (it is easier to provide incentives with a more granular lisencing structure, any other options determined at 5 can also be used for this)
- review an extract of your findings/new ideas/questions with a test group from your existing customers (a few die hard pre-beta testers, a few loyal users with little support issues and minimal/no fan boy activity, a few new customers)

Just add something to the paid version that is jaw dropping and don't give it to the free version. Problem solved.

I take it now that windows 7 support is on its way soon that vista is fully supported by now including 64 bit version?
