He said that he is authorized reseller, I found him on eBay

 

I have not bought from him, but have bought Kaspersky on ebay. Some have found their codes blacklisted, but I have not had that problem. Make sure he has an excellent history, and as always let the buyer beware. If you use PayPal you can get your money back if you find the key doesn't work. I think the time frame for that is about 45 days.

Can you get your money back for digital goods ?
It has been a long time since I used Paypal, but I seem to remember that that's excluded from their buyer protection.

There may be a difference between Paypal's terms for Ebay and Paypal's terms for other vendors.

 

A few months ago I bought a key for Avast. As it turned out it was not good, and I contacted PayPal. In a couple of weeks or so I got my money back. If I remember correctly you have 45 days to report "fraud." My problem is that I sometimes buy an AV key and don't use it for months or longer. Currently I am using an F-Secure IS that I bought thru ebay maybe over a year ago. In this case I received a CD. It works fine.

I have purchased Norton, Kaspersky, Avira, and FS thru ebay and except for the Avira key all have worked fine. However, I read the feedback, and sometimes I see that a seller has a few negatives that come from a blacklisted key.

I don't know how the sellers get the keys, but I assume that if they are bogus that the AV company will blacklist them. I have no desire to save money by buying illegal merchandise.

PayPal will not refund for non tangiable goods (e.g. digital deliveries)

 

I guess I don't understand what a digital delivery is. I would have thought that the key I received through email was a digital delivery. I sure got my money back from that.
What is a digital delivery?

Anything which isn't physically sent/rec'vd...I am not sure about the US, but it definitely applies to the UK.

 

I just now checked the PayPal and ebay sites. I am in the US. Here is the statement from an ebay auction to sell a license only delivered by email.

"Coverage: Pay with PayPal and your full purchase price is covered | See terms"

Here is a paragraph from the PayPal answers to questions.
13.8 What items are not covered by PayPal’s Protection for buyers?

"Items that do not have the PayPal Buyer Protection message in the eBay listing are not covered by PayPal’s Protection for buyers. In addition, the following items are prohibited under the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy and are not covered even if they do have the PayPal Buyer Protection message in the eBay listing: firearms and firearm parts, illegal and prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia, tobacco, offensive items, child pornography, and any illegal items."

For further information go to the PayPal site and look up Protection for Buyers.

Maybe it is different here and in the UK, but I do know for sure the Avast license I received was just the license number by email from the seller. It was obviously covered as I did get my money back.

As a result if I check a seller's feedback, and it is good I am not afraid to purchase a key and receive it by email. There are some good buys in the area of AVs on ebay.

Ever since ioffer.com sellers were obliterated off the map within the last few months, some of them have moved to ecrater. Ioffer used to host sellers selling DVD-R of software, movies, music, you name it, for a good 6 years or so. BIG software bust made ioffer clamp down on the other bootleggers as well. A few have since shown up at ecrater. In a word, no, it's not legitimate.

 

If it is not legal then I would not even consider buying from the guy. Until this thread I had never heard of ecrater. Thanks.

What if some one uses a keygen to produce keys and sell them on e-bay, once a key is blacklisted, he produces another and replaces older one for u.

It,s just a Q in my mind. After all how they can sell so cheap keys?

 

I also wonder, but have no idea. In my experience and looking at feedback, when sellers have sold 25 - 50 or so and they are not blacklisted or prohibited from selling by ebay they must be OK. Of course in past years I have mostly bought boxed copies, and many have been bought at stores and the rebate collected. They then sell them on ebay. I have not had but the one experience of a key being bogus or blacklisted. I would not want another from that seller.

I also know that some who install and work on computers get a lot of OEM copies, and when they have too many or a new version is introduced they sell them on ebay or elswhere.

Although I do not want to purchase anything illegal or that is dishonest, I am not going to try to police ebay, and will let ebay and the various makers do that.

Usually what happens is region restricted keys are sold. Obviously the price of a license in china differs from that what we would pay in the UK, and some people take advantage of this by selling regional keys outside of the authorised zone, meaning a) It could be blacklisted at some point and b) You are in some cases not entitled to technical support...that is the only way I can think of for them selling it so cheap.

 

Today I sent to Kaspersky Support the two license numbers I bought from an ebay seller. I activated one shortly after I bought it, and it has been working. I have not activated the second.
However, I have no intent to use them if they are not legitimate. I had rather lose the money than to use an illegal license.

I will post the reply when I receive it. I have no idea when that will be.

If you make a keyfile at activation.kaspersky.com and open the keyfile in notepad it should tell you which region it is for.
