New customers means new e-mail address.

When the giveaway was first started, I was brought to this screen. I chose Existing customers and it told me that I were not eligible. But when I enter a new e-mail address, I was brought to the credit card screen.

Some hours later, credit card information was no longer required.

You may be on to something there. USA here, and no request for credit card info.

I'm in Germany through the Tor network. I gave them a hushmail e-mail address.

Shockingly, they requested a credit card. If you can't trust a guy using an anonymous proxy using an anonymous e-mail address with fake credentials, who can you trust?

But, seriously, I do wonder if the credit card requirement depends on whether you gave them an anonymous e-mail address or one through a paid provider.

For those who didn't have to give a credit card number, did you use your real e-mail?

Same here (Turkey). No credit card info required, I got the license key. Some of my friends said first they received an advertisement mail and after trying again the license mail was sent. I dunno why, maybe due to some bugs in Zone Alarm promotion system lol. It may help if you try again (with same or a different e-mail address).

I no more than U, yep I used one of my real email addresses, which is on GMail, which is for only software promotions. :D

You have to use one to get the email with the registration key and download link.

Yes. BTW, I'm in Canada so maybe it's a North American non-requirement for credit card #'s? Of note, however, is it took a couple hours before they emailed me the key, so they maybe they are running some sort of entitlement procedure before they send it.

    *Edit*

Just saw this, so not a North American requirement :)

    Question:

How easily and cleanly does this uninstall? I'm going to give it a shot, but I doubt I'll keep it (I've been running fine with Nod32 and Vista's firewall for a long time), so if it's a pain to completely get this off my system, I'll probably pass.

I was wondering the same thing. I was also wondering about system resource usage for this?

    Yup.
See my earlier post. I'm in the US. No credit card request. Balance $00 so the site responds to one selection.
Address, email address, city, state the whole bit till i just backed out. Don't won't any of it. And even when I used the email used previously it was asking too many questions including shipping address (shipping WHAT o_O) I used to have a free key for two years now to ZAP, but all this is just not worth the hassle. Really there exist wonderful other free or paid alternatives which I won't mention in order not to start a firewalls war here. PEACE :)

I tried to use a fake address and my CC would not clear so I had to change it- so they actually run the card. I have not been able to get to he page that just asks for an email address and sends you a key. I am in the USA. Cleared cookies, rebooted, used different browsers- still just the same screen pops up asking for CC info.

No fraud only scripts and cookies.

    If you move from http://www.checkpoint.com/press/2009/zonealarm-2010-free-patch-tuesday-101209.html

There is a redirection at http://www.zonealarm.com/only24hours/ to the index.htm page and they show you a shopping page & ask you a CC when you click the download button.

Else if you move directly to //download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/sum/index-b.html you will see only a box asking for your name and email when you click the download box.

    Btw i don't want it ;-)
