TuneUp Utilities 2010?

Tuneup Utilities usually releases a new version yearly, anyone heard of anything about a 2010 version?

 

They'll probably release it when Windows 7 becomes available to the general public.

 

I just Google'd "Tune Up Utilities 2010" because i'm interested in this also, would you believe every single site in the top #30 results is cracks, warez and torrent sites and no info.

I bet there's some great malware samples in that bunch.

I liked the old interface better, I still use Tune-Up Utilities 2007. One thing that really chaps me though, I simply don't understand the cracks/warez for Tune-Up Utilities. Tuneup, as a company, is really good about releasing the previous year's version free for a while after new versions are released. Of all companies to target with cracks/keygens/warez - it doesn't seem right.

 

A cracked program to optimize a system? Geesh. Whoever tries that deserves all the malware and computer problems they get.

 

They will send you a pre-launch offer if the release is new the corner.

 

They don't seem to care if a product belongs to Microsoft with billions, or a single developer trying to feed their family. I'd love to see Google wipe all that junk right out of the search engine, because i mean "every" result in the top #30 is just ridiculous.

Half that is warez, and the first entry is the 2010 search where all the results are warez with who knows what malware.

Anyhow, i'd say Tune-Up are adding a bunch of Win7 stuff and i "assume" 2010 may be just after the official 7 RTM.

 

1Boss1, I agree with you. I should have clarified what I meant in my post. I only meant that Tune-Up Utilities is always so generous with last-version giveaways when they release a new product. You're right - they target everybody.

Hi guys, I'd rec'd the pre-order email from Tune-up; Version 2010 will be ready for download at the end of October. And the up-grade now come with a license for 3PCs.

I had a look for the BETA to get screenshots and I came across a site offering it, possibly not legimit. For this reason I won't post the link but there is a picture of the new start page (proper one, not a sketch).

One question I have is regarding the way TuneUp Utilties market their new upcoming versions. People signed up to the newsletter like myself and customers will get news. However up until the day of its release the new version appears to have no mention on the site.

What I mean is - theres no mention in the FAQ of an upgrade if a new version comes out in a small time span since you bought the last one. So people may purchase 2009 now, and then release they could have waited a month for 2010. Maybe I'm wrong and they get a free upgrade?

 

Thanks for this link. I received an email from them yesterday with the same offer, only for 19,95 Euros. At an exchange rate of €1 = $1,42 that is quite a difference. Needless to say, I ordered it and left the currency set to USD.

I pre-ordered 2010 a while back and downloaded today and installed on my laptop. Been using 2009 since it was released and was happy with it.

The only thing that bugs me is the extra stuff they keep adding to new versions presumably to justify it. For example, the turbo mode they've added reckons if it's turned on it helps programs launch faster. Is it just me but my programs launch fast enough as it is - surely having a service running isn't going to help matters. I think in this day and age of fast pcs such a thing just isn't needed. It is off by default though.

Don't get me wrong - I like the other elements such as the registry cleaner, disk cleaner etc. but just seems to becoming more and more bloated.

I'll see how it performs on my laptop for a while before deciding whether or not to install on my home pc running Windows 7 x64.

It must be hard as a maker of optimization software. First of all a lot of this is simply not needed as Windows is self tuning to a large extent. Then you have excellent freeware like ccleaner, sysinternals etc. But the real target for these is people whose pc's are slow because they are old or get infected with malware, and there are dozens of competing programs, including worthless shareware and spyware that are vying for that business.

TuneUp has always been very safe and works as advertised. I don't blame them for adding features to differentiate them.

well using it personally i cant agree with that review. sounds like a lot of personal laziness as his reasoning for most of the problems he states...

 

I have to agree with you. I have not experienced a single crash of the program while using it.

 

One of the items Tuneup Utilities found on my laptop was that I was not running an AV. I have Online Armor++ installed so that was incorrect...not a big deal but when I selected hide permanently, it crashed.

I also notice a definite increase in boot time. That's it so far. Not sure it is worth the upgrade price from the 2007 version I have.

 

I see. Well, I have not experienced any problems thus far, but then again, I have kept a pristine copy of Windows 7 even before I installed TuneUp Utilities 2010. The only thing I really don't like are the two processes it loads on startup.

 

I upgraded to 2010 a few days ago, primarily because the license is for 3 PCs rather than just one. While I haven't had any crashes or process freezes as described in the linked review, I also haven't used the Turbo Mode or Drive Defrag features. Some of the comments in the review, however, I do agree with. Features which were immediately visible in the GUI of previous versions now require you to hunt for them ... but perhaps this is "personal laziness" on my part.

Unlike previous versions, 2010 uses a (wholly unnecessary IMHO) system tray icon in addition to the Desktop icon. As the reviewer noted, there's no "exit" command for the tray icon. I eventually found a way to disable it, but why should I have to waste my time to do that? After installation, the program's automatic maintenance activates without first giving you the option to decide whether you want it to run automatically, and which features you want to run. You should be able to configure this during installation, not after the program starts running.

After allowing 2010 to make its "recommended" changes, my monitor's screen went black whenever a couple minutes passed without using my keyboard or mouse. The monitor would go black while I was reading posts in discussion boards. TUU 2010 considers this tuning your system for "high performance." I changed back to Windows' recommended setting and configured 2010 to permanently hide its recommendation. 2010 lists startup programs as either "essential" or "optional." It lists Windows Defender as "essential" and FirstDefense-ISR and my backup imaging software as "optional" ... which is opposite to how I would rate them.

Other than the license being valid for 3 PCs, there's nothing I like better about 2010 than previous versions.

 

Installed Yesterday , uninstalled yesterday after 1 hr( took 1hr to find all the functions ). changed back to v2009.

Not user friendly. very hard to use.
my system hanged while running v2010.
system tray icon with no exit , created some headaches.
Appearance was like a hide and seek game.
But cleaning and optimization was superb .

I changed 2010 to 2009 . Now my pc running smoothly.
I love TU utilities .
