Think I am gonna give this a shot this weekend. Looks pretty reasonably priced for all the bells and whistles. Has anyone tested this- or found test results- of appranger against real malware?

Here's the thing, I've very weary of trying this because I have no idea if it's working or not; there's not indication that things that are supposed to be sandboxed are. I also have a slight issue with it because it seems that it is very easily defeatable; even though it is service-based all you need to do is terminate one of the two exes and AppRanger will not work because it will not be able to connect to the service. This, of course, is fixed with a reboot.

If I'm wrong please let me know.

Nope. I just terminated both exe. I thought services cannot be terminated, but they can be stopped manually.

I was able to terminate it with AnVir SS, but I believe the freeware version uses the same terminate method. Can you tell me, does AppRanger's sandbox function like SBIE or defensewall, which is policy based?

it is similar to defensewall, isolates the browser, messenger, email clients, and what ever applications you want to protect, the one that looks like appranger is appguard but with a scaner;) by the way i tried also to terminate apprang
er using Comodo D+ and couldnt terminate it,it always cames back nicely;)
i will try with anvir to confirm this, where can i get this anvir terminator?

I noticed that too. When the exe is terminated it does restart. But AR is always "disconnected" and essentially doesn't function without a restart. Also, it seems that LooknStop does not start when AppRanger is installed.

I think I might need a little help with configuring it, because I can't seem to get the sandbox to protect anything, or at least test its effectiveness.

open appranger console and hit where it says sandbox, then find protected applications and configure there the level of protection you desire:thumb: also you can add more executables files to be protected

why you ppl try so hard to terminated appranger :D , try to understand it first , which seems very unclear , there is "sandbox" feature over there, but u cant clean/flash it , or even see what is going on inside him or if it catch anything o_O

so weird approach to "sandbox" mechanism

i test it against 0 - days real nasty malware and it says "block" when i try to run them , it doesn't tell how it been block or if it find it infected by his scanner or his behavior blocker ...

my impression its kinda gay software :D :D any one got other impression:argh: ?

    cheers

i forgot to mention it is also anti-executable;) by the way if you run malware againts appranger when is on high is block for sure but lower it to low malware will run yes but sandbox it may not show the # but any behabiour will be monitor for suspicious actions and if you run a scan it will fast identified the runing malware that is already sandbox and can be easily deleted with no problem;)
