SpywareBlaster is only a free version.
If you give a $10. donation you can get auto updates, the so called pro version. Either way the software is the same.
Uses no memory or cpu.
Not really a big deal cause it updates only every 15 days or so.
They do appreciate donations to help with the upkeep and development.

i was just letting u know how im running it on demand, for automatic updates i imagine it wuld need to run in realtime like any other software that has auto updates and since im running it when i choose to (on demand) thats why i wrote it as such.

 

Yes, sbautoupdate.exe or something will start at every startup, and I don't believe it will shut its process down when it's done checking - guess it's to keep protection enabled at all times and so on, I dunno...

I tried running both Sandboxie and Shadow Defender together (with SD set to Shadow Mode upon boot), with some exclusions for Avira update and personal folder. But after 3 days, booting and turning off the notebook became very long and unstable. This does not happen if I boot normally without Shadow mode on. I'm not sure what happened.


Hence, the past 24hrs, my latest setup is changed as follows:

- DefenseWall (from GOATD)

On Demand:

this setup is the fastest ive had yet, system starts up in half the time if not better than it did when i had an AV which is very nice and i still feel secure

This may not be my ideal choice (I'd like to use Avast, for example), but it works flawlessly on my system and actually feels secure. I've had technical issues with almost every other firewall and AV combination, but this just works beautifully for me on two machines. Seem to have all the bases covered without becoming totally paranoid.

Current now for > 1 month

XP Pro SP2 with select patch/updates running as ADMIN
PGS - interface to SRP to provide Basic User restrictions to all network facing apps or other chosen apps.
SaferZone - to start anything not in SRP as Basic User on per need basis.
Shadow Defender - in shadow mode 24/7 - exclusions to profile directory mainly with few other choise directories I use and want data to remain across reboots.
IPSec rules - to limit traffic to only ports HTTP,HTTPS,DNS,IMAP/SMTP/Mail,Proxy, other specialized ports for special applications such as TeamSpeak or TightVNC type applications.
Sandboxie - forced folders for all browsers with a bit of a customized scheme, also included is direct access to special downloads directory that both SD and SRP are adhered to.

Backup or disaster recover consists of Macrium Images on secondary hdd or optical media, with bartPE ramdisk built into the OS boot ini file. 3 minute image creation and 5 minute restore, approximately.

An assortment of customized permissions to take ownership away from whichever user account which made anything, and give ownership to Admins group only.

Nothing else.

Like ssj100, I was using Sandboxie for all internet facing application, and DefenseWall (trust all internet facing applications that are forced sandboxed, but untrust C:\Sandbox folder). As I download a lot, I have taken out DefenseWall until zipping/unzipping issue is resolved.

Meanwhile, I'm trying Shadow Defender (in shadow mode 24/7) with Sandboxie.

I had always wanted a system that's without all the pop-ups, yet with high security and easy to maintain. Since I share my notebook with my wife and let my toddler play with my notebook too, SD with appropriate exclusions seems a good choice since I can reverse all the bad changes made, if any.

I was trying out SD a few weeks ago, but at that time, I also had Sandboxie, Avira Suite, Prevx, OA and DW. Somehow, too many isn't good,... my notebook became very slow and sluggish

So, throwing DW out due to zipping/unzipping issue is only one of the reason. After trying various combination, I've decided to throw everything else out, except Sandboxie (configured accordingly) for protection, and SD for added layered protection and to reverse any bad changes done by my toddler. Prevx is to let me know in case I have downloaded any baddies.

This combination is very light and serve my objectives well. Indeed, Less is More!

 

i tested avira free beta and didnt like it so i decided to use comodo which i found a faster application here running xp2 i set it to high for heuristics and on access for virus scaning and i feel it is very configurable and granular application
