are there any performance tests out there about internet drag of firewalls? or if people can give ther opinions on which firewalls have the best internet performance.

im looking for an application based FW. not a rule one. HIPS + FW or FW alone are both fine for suggestions.

I personally, would rather here it coming from a professional like Stem instead of some random comments spewing. He's guides of Windows Firewall is why I love it in the first place.

On my computer Outpost is a little slower than Online Armor. But then it is the other way around on my wife's machine. You have to try different firewalls to find the one that is fast for you.

matousec had tests but they scraped them and new results, deleted the vaulues they had. I wish there was more performance testing. You can still use there performance tool to measure firewalls tho.

You can measure throughput with Qcheck or IxChariot but it may not be what you want - http://www.ixchariot.com/products/datasheets/qcheck.html

Stats refer to specific functions with parameters - throughput could be affected by protocol or connection type - not just the firewall. So the design you use (PC to PC say) needs to minimize all other influences except the firewall on throughput performance.

When you are looking for "Internet drag" in your post, you may be looking at screen refresh rates that the firewall appears to slow down as it utilizes CPU, not network throughput, so this term may not be able to be described by one or two simple statisitical measures.
