Omega Windows Recovery Agent 1.0

Hey, long-time reader and this is my first post, so I hope it's a good one.

When I am not here learning from everyone's posts, I frequent places like SecurityFocus, and just recently, I noticed this pretty cool application by Black List Software called, Omega Windows Recovery Agent Beta 1.0 but I wasn't able to test it because I didn't have a floppy drive and I think it only boots from floppy disk!

Has anyone tried this out yet or can someone please try this out and let me know how and if it works? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Just realized that SecurityFocus' description is a bit vague, lol. This is an Antimalware software that boots the system and kills malware from outside of Windows.

 

Seems like it could be useful. I burned the iso to cd and and works good at boot up. Iso for cd and/or floppy. Very small iso, only around 1.5 megs.

It doesn't do any kind of scan for malware, like an anti-virus boot cd would. You have to know what your looking for. But in the hands of an expert this could prove a useful tool.

I think there are many tools like this already on other boot cds. Many of which are permanently free. This looks to be free only for the beta?

 

Since UBCD4Win provides way more functionality,permanently free I'll probably give this one a miss.

 

@Blue Ring: Wow, when you said that it ran from CD I thought you were kidding, then when I went to the Black List Software website to read the guides again, it appears that they upgraded to version 2.0 and it DOES boot from CD-ROM now AND it has 32-bit GUI... AWESOME!! Thanks

Did you actually try to disable any files with it? I am wondering if you are able to use it in that way.

@andman35: I checked out the software you mentioned and it says this about getting rid of malware infections:

I am pretty sure Omega has that ability to disable infections built right in. Not sure how that software you mentioned works really, but it looks like it just boots to an image or something that the user creates ahead of time. Anyway, I think I might try to see if Omega boots in VPC since I don't have any blank discs, lol. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks guys.

EDIT: Hell yeah! It's loading in VPC!! It's running pretty slow, but I guess that's because its a Virtual PC, lol. Anyway, I am liking the new GUI display, I can't wait to start killing things with it, lol. I don't know why I didn't think to try VPC before. Has anyone else got it running in MS VPC 2007?

I'm not sure where you read up on UBCD4Win but the current version has Avira,A2,SAS,MBAM,VIPRE,KasperskyVRT and more It works by loading a cut down version of Windows XP,running in RAM,it is pre-mastered but the scanners can all be updated on the fly if a network connection is available.

Having said that I'll take a look at this utility and if it's useful I'll add it as a multiboot option to UBCD.
