I absolutely LOVE PC Tools FW, but, it refuses to keep my magicjack soft phone connected. MJ works with all the firewalls I've tried, but PCT FW keeps losing connection. I've given MJ full access and still loses connection.

Unfortunately the changelog refers to version 6 generally and doesn't specify what's new in this build. The previous build was not stable for me on Windows 7 RC1 x86 it would be nice to know what has changed. By the way, if you need an alternative PrivateFirewall 6.1 works just fine on Windows 7.

    Edit:

    OK, here's the changelog details:

Fixes from PCTFW v6.0.0.63 to PCTFW v6.0.0.66 include:

    1. WHQL signing of NDIS driver
    2. Languages support
    3. Bug fixes

Fixes from PCTFW v6.0.0.58 beta to PCTFW v6.0.0.63 beta include:

    1. Fixed a hang in ATI Catalyst Control Centre when ESV is active.
    2. Fixed issues with Firewall GUI hang when loading FirewallPlugin.dll

Fixes from PCTFW v6.0.0.52 beta to PCTFW v6.0.0.58 beta include:

    1. Fixes Application rules analysis
    2. Fixes problem with uTorrent reported
    3. Fixes with problems around network connection/disconnection which were reported.

The link I provided for the changelog details were all I could find at the time.
I'm looking forward to trying it since I have Vista x64. Slowly but surely more and more
software firewalls are becoming x64 compatible.

Sometimes I started some small software, the computer crashed.
I hope this phenomenon won't appear.

Does PCTFW v6 still crashes when you run a certain application?

    Which Application?

I will see if I can reproduce it.

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry,I haven't used PCTools now. When I just used 5.0 version,I found PCTools have something wrong on compatibility. And I found the reason why the computer crashed was the PCTools firewall's Enhanced Security Verification. If I kept it open, when I started some software, the computer crashed.

But my friend told this problem can be solved in Version 6.0.If setting a Trust Application List,we can use computer without a crash.

    Hi,

I have been trying this 60066 beta for a few days along with my paid Defensewall protection. So far I haven´t run in the ESV freezes I had with version 5 and I am not seeing conflicts with Defensewall either.

Anyone else running PCTFW6 along with Defensewall?
(there is thread abt DW & OA in the antimalware forum, but I am more interested in the DW/PCTFW combo)

    Thanks

little advice needed here. do u think PC Tools FW is robust enuff to be used in unkown potentially malicious public wireless networks or is the firewall not really at that level yet and better used for home networks?

    It is. If you...
    1) enable expert mode and disable "Automatically allow known applications" and
    2) enable logging for all the Advanced Rules and keep an eye on the reports.

Yes, that's a lot of work, but protection in areas that are "potentially malicious" requires that level of attention whether it's a computer network or that bad part of town at two o'clock in the morning. ;)

One of the features in v6 you might like, where it can detect a network and associate a profile with that network. So if your at home you can have one profile, if your in a public location a different profile can be attached. So when ever you change locations your profile will change automatically to match that network that you have already set

Question. Have been trying out the PC tools firewall beta version 6.0.0.66 and is it normal for the icon to remain grey for about 10secs on boot up before it turns to it's normal color? Was using the 4.5.0.24 version and the icon instantly appeared in it's normal color... orange with green and yellow. Been trying to register in the PC tools forum but haven't gotten an email yet regarding "activation of account" yet to ask about the above in their forum.

This was and wasn't in the earlier versions. There is a delay with the UI before the user is asked questions to make sure the system has full initialized and that of the firewall initializing. This has always been in there, the difference now is when it starts the first thing it does is show the gray icon before it does anything, then when it has fully initialized it will turn colored.

Ok then it is normal for it to be grey when initializing. I stays grey for me for about 6 seconds now and then turns to it's normal color. Am beginning to like this firewall .....now if they can fix beta threatfire so it allows firefox to run...will be in good shape here. Thanks.
