roboform

Does anyone use roboform for remembering IE passwords?
Is this secure and trustworthy?

 

I have roboform installed for a couple of years now with IE and more recently with FF and I haven't had any (security) issues.

You could go to google or any search engine and type "roboform security". Lot's of reading material about your question.

 

I have used it for over 6 years no problems

 

So how does it work? It generates a password, do you see what the password is? Are you vulnerable to screen loggers?

 

In my opinon, it's still the best of its class.

i have Roboform for about 3 years now - got the pro version free thru Trialpay iirc....i use it for my bookmarks as well as log-ins and it now has a free online sync but im not sure if i'll use that....

only thing that bothers me a little is that they might be somewhat of a target for hackers since they are the leader in mktshare as far as i can tell....

 

Is there still a free version of RoboForm?
I think I will try it. There are so many passwords that it is a chore to remember. Both FF and IE will remember passwords, and FF has a Master Password, but I suspect RoboForm is safer. I don't trust the FF or IE security for my bank for example.

Any negatives from anyone? Thanks.

They have a free trial, so give it a shot and yes it's secure.

However i personally don't like it, mine sits there going to waste.

 

Its an interesting soft, thus you can also carry with you on pda (palm, WM), on a USB key and also has U3 version. I used it when was a giveaway, then no problem occured as I remember.

 

RoboForm is one awesome program. So many have tried to come close, and a couple have, but as far as I'm concerned RoboForm is still the easiest to use, the safest to use and is top-notch all the way.

I have a PRO license and a RoboForm-To-Go license for the portable RoboForm that I keep on my usb flash drive that lives on my keychain. Of course, I have backups, but if I were to lose my keychain with the flash drive - all the RoboForm files are encrypted and I don't have to worry about anything falling into the wrong hands.

Two thumbs up and more. One of my 3 or 4 indispensable programs.

I also keep a portable Golden Section Notes (aka GS Notes) on my keychain with tons of information. The.db file (.gso) is also strongly encrypted.

I also have a portable VPN, a portable TOR, and finally a portable version of CCleaner on my keychain.

I feel safe. BTW, I keep these identical files in an encrypted TrueCrypt volume (very small) and sync them once a week or so. They reside on an online storage service available wherever I am, 24/7, if I were to ever lose my keys.

But the biggest reason to carry all this, at all, is to have RoboForm with me at all times.

very interesting post. Its reassuring to see that you trust roboform so implicitly. What do you think of KeePass? It offers similar features but is completely free.

 

I've tried KeePass and it's good for what it does. But it's basically just a Password Keeper, it lacks the intelligence of RoboForm with its seamless password entry. With RoboForm there's no copy and paste, no opening a program, RoboForm is always there, one-click.

No, it does not use the clipboard at all. I don't know of any way the actual passwords could be captured by a keylogger.

 

What about when you generate a password? From the tutorial, the password generated is revealed. Wouldnt a screen logger be able to capture this info?

 

Quite true. But I wouldn't be generating new passwords on public computers.

You can give it a spin. The free version allows you unlimited passwords for thirty days and limits you to ten after the 30-days. I'll say this, it's the one piece of software that I gladly paid for knowing there were freeware alternatives. The freeware just doesn't have the "intelligence" of RoboForm. It's a must-have for me and from talking to and reading others thoughts who use RoboForm, many feel the same way. But the best thing to do is just to try it out.

 

it is kind of a trap though...i thought id use the free version for however long i needed to and so i added a bunch of logins, was probably up to a few hundred and then it says you must either upgrade or cut way back and at that point you're already hooked - i didnt know how id do w/out it so of course i had to buy it...for me id say its the #1 must have program...nothing else that id have to pay for is even close....now they have an "free" online sync but im afraid to try it because i think the same
thing will happen and it will end up costing me more $$$...

yup, but have you tried the "online sync" yet? when i go to their website it says Free Free all over the place, but im afraid it will only be free for one month or something and ill be hooked again...right now i just backup to usb flash drives...
