Opensuse is also making their own variant of Moblin, which one do you recommend more? (can't find the key differences between these two versions).

Moblin.org states that the download size is ~680 MB while the latest .img file is 720 MB large (too large to fit on a normal 700 mb cd). Is it possible to download a smaller installer?

 

Don't think so. Would not go for smaller, older versions either. You want the latest and greatest, as each release fixes lots of bugs.

And Longboard, I got this feeling, somebody is watching me ...

I downloaded the .img file and tried to run it in a Vbox session. I got an error saying my cpu didn't have a "pae" feature, whatever that is, an wouldn't boot. I did get the boot menu screen but the error occurs when I attempt to boot.

I don't know what that has to do with your system.

 

In settings for the virtual machine, check the box marked PAE. Even so, I doubt you'll have much success booting in virtual machine. I only managed to get into the desktop on real hardware - T61 and Compaq 6910p.

I noted you mentioned Ubuntu was going to make a Moblin distro as well, I wonder where that leaves the netbook remix - will the netbook remix evolve into a Moblin platform do you think ?

 

Tried it once... What I found was the the Clutter-based GUI was incredibly slow. Have there been performance improvements lately?

Nick, I mentioned Ubuntu is going to make Moblin ... I did? Anyhow, earlier versions of Moblin were based on Ubuntu, now it's Fedora.

Ah maybe I read it elsewhere, but Im pretty sure I read there is going to be a Moblin V2 version of Ubuntu.

 

Fairly nice initial effort. The only issue I've noticed on my Samsung NC10 netbook so far is that the bluetooth mouse isn't recognized. Aside from that, it looks great, especially for netbooks and casual PC's. Booted the NC10 off a USB thumb drive.

Doesn't seem to like me. I used the "dd" command to put the .img file on a USB stick and tried it on my Aspire notebook. Got the Boot Menu but it just hangs when I try to boot.

 

Try burning the .img file to CD ... Maybe that might work.

Aint working here on a dell XPS1530... but that's to be expected as it was created for netbooks I guess ...

DVD I meant. What difference ... dunno. But worth a try, isn't it?

Did that but the notebook doesn't have a DVD, only CD. I have and external but it, of course, is also USB.

 

Do they provide md5sums? If so, check that your img file has the same checksum. If not it is corrupt, which would explain your problem.

 

I tried Moblin on my Eee and btw in a vm.
