I made backup discs of my whole hard drive before it died and i used 15 DL dvds so I went to restore the backup and disc 4 does not work at all. Is there any way I can still restore most of everything? I have tried just recovering select things but even the smallest thing that I try to recover litterally takes hours on end and asks to change discs every 2 minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :D

I'm guessing here but I suspect that you could copy each disc to a single hard drive location. At that point TI might be able to find what it needs without you having to change dvd disks.

If cleaning the "bad" dvd disc doesn't help, try cleaning the head in your dvd drive. If that doesn't help, I'd try other dvd drives that might be in different computers and see if they can read it. If you find a combination that reads it, just copy it to the hard drive location mentioned in the first paragraph.

Then go out and get an external usb hard drive, and forget optical disks. They are much faster, much more reliable, and dirt cheap these days.

    Good luck.

    Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

    vulcanraven695,

What does this mean? Are you able to copy the content of the disk by means of Windows Explorer? If yes, please copy all the disks into a single folder on your hard drive and try to restore the archive or mount it.

Also you can try Acronis Bootable rescue media, it is based on Linux and may work for you.

    Thank you.

If a disk is bad in some spot, then it won't work for a restore and the whole set is usefless for a restore. However, if you copy the contents of the entire backup set to a harddisk directory, then it might be possible to open the backup file in explorer and copy out one or more particular files (except whatever is in the bad spot).

Optical disks are a troublesome and generally unrelilable way to archive data. You'd be better off with a harddisk and harddisks are dirt cheap these days. My brogher just bought a terabyte drive for $100. You can get smaller ones for less ;)
