    Hi,

I use Firefox 3.0 (I know v3.5 is out but I'm still with 3.0) and some files I download are corrupted and I don't understand why because it doesn't happen to every file I download, however, I've been testing with one specific:
    http://www.ajuaonline.com/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=31 (~18Mb)

If "Web access protection" is turned on, this file will be corrupted, if I turn "Web access protection" off, than the file will be OK. I downloaded this file countless times and every time I did with "Web access protection" turned on, the file was indeed corrupted and it wasn't with it turned off.

    How I know this?

When I executed the corrupted file, I got an error message about some invalid 7-Zip archive (it seems the self-extracting archive was compressed with 7-Zip) and if the file is not corrupted, the installation begins.

In the mean time, I've disabled "Web access protection" but I wanted it on, of course...

    Any help is appreciated!

I get a timeout error on "last second"...

tested your links with the same behavior (timeout error at the end of download)

Now that you mention downloads from Microsoft's website... It also happened to me once downloading the Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 and I got pissed because it was a huge download (~2Gb) and in the end, it was corrupted because of ESS/EAV, more exactly, the "Web access protection" module.

I too have seen this on any number of file downloads using Vista Business SP2 (32-bit) and IE8 - such as Nvidia graphics drivers, instant messaging software etc.
Aside from disabling "web access protection" (which I too want on), one work-around I've found is to add an asterisk (*) under the "List of addresses excluded from filtering" in the category Web access protection -> HTTP, HTTPS -> Address management.

On 2 machines this at least allows the files to download fully (although there seems to be a long delay once it reaches 99% - which isn't apparent when web access protection is completely disabled). I suspect this is probably ESS scanning the file as it finishes...

Hope this helps, and I hope ESET are able to address this at some stage... because ESS is a fantastic product (aside from a few annoyances!) :)

I'm no software update expert, but I'd hazard a guess that each module is updated at different intervals (or more likely) when updates/bugs/fixes are required for it. Mine still reports 1005 (20081105) as well as several other posts on this forum.... There may also be slight differences between Home and Business versions.

You can always adjust the prompting for program component updates by going into the advanced setup options and visit Tools -> System updates and selecting a different notification level for ESS application updates.
