What is your security setup these days?

    There you go again.
This is NOT a "very open-ended" question.

"What is your security setup these days?" is not "How is your security setup these days?" nor is it "Why is your security setup these days?".

If I ask someone, "What is your name?" should I expect that person to ramble on and tell me why they like their middle name more than their first name, or that their neighbor has the same name?

The OP https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=632047&postcount=1 is one line:
Now, what on earth is so "classic open-ended" about that? o_O o_O

As for your "Don't worry though, if the moderators agree with you, we'll see most of these posts deleted" attitude, the moderators shouldn't have to be constantly walking behind clearing up after us.

    LOL.
    Come on man.
    Let's be reasonable here.
I see new post, I am thinking wow, someone changed their setup, but then see no changes, just more opinions. That is very disappointing! :'(
I am certainly not saying only lists should be in here, but the signal-to-noise ratio is poor!

Stop adding to the signal-to-noise ratio then.

    Added:

    SAS Pro

    CIS 3.0

    Removed:

MBAM 4.0 ( Reason being it seemed heavy and didn't have much in the way of configuration options.

MSE Beta (Reason being there doesn't seem to be much there? No web-scanning especially it looks like. It also took up a good chunk of RAM. I'll re-visit this once it's finalized)

    Standard Setup:

    Sandboxie Paid

    Avast Free

Peerguardian 2 (Finally works with Comodo and comes in handy outside of P2P also)

    Secunia PSI

    Router

MVPS HOSTS with Hostsman (This is likely on the way out though).

Yes, as these were my first ever OT posts in this thread, I did take some liberties. ;)
    Realtime:
CIS 3.10 Firewall Custom, Defense+ Paranoid (Yeah I am still using this. I am still trying to get adjusted to this OA interface before I move it over.)
    WinPatrol

    On Demand:
Hitman Pro - first run will be later today
SAS - rarely, this will most likely be out soon.
    MBAM - rarely
A-squared - rarely, never found anything for me.

    Other:
    Kerio Winroute - router
EMC Retrospect - daily backup job storing system snapshots for the last 60 days, my cure.
    OpenDNS
WOT - trying this out a little bit

    Out:
Avira Webguard - I dropped the realtime guard sometime ago but today I uninstalled the entire product.

    Future:
Sandboxie - liked it two years ago but didn't need it, now it probably a good time to start using it again.
OA++ - this is a most interesting product, I am hoping for some test results.

I'm still sticking to Comodo because it's the only HIPS that is working on Windows 7 x64 :(
I'm waiting for KIS to be Seven ready, I'm also missing a sandbox.

I've used most of them but... finally my best choice is BitDefender for everything regarded to security!

The best one for me is the one from BitDefender! It really has a very good detection rate and unique settings like game mode and laptop mode and those settings make it special and super useful for me ( I'm a rough GAMER :) - on a laptop :D)!

The spam filters made for a wile now, my online life SPAMless!

    MBAM
    A-squared
Avira Premium on-demand - put this back temporarily as no right-click scan from Hitman Pro

    Other:

Changed my setup in a mere 24 hours.

    Removed:

CIS 3.10-Reason: Admitting I don't know what the heck I'm doing with D+. I was more worried with it being ON my system than I was before I started using it (Wildest, you have this thing in Paranoid mode? That makes me shiver, lol).

SAS Pro-Reason: I realized Avast has been doing just fine in the anti-malware department, and so has Sandboxie. I took my resources back, hehe.

MVPSHOST, Hostsman-Reason: 1. Extra resource usage for a HOST file and HOST manager app that isn't updated enough to keep up with threats. 2. Avast warns me about bad websites. I do however now need to find a free way to block ads in IE8.

Secunia PSI-Reason: This one was a harder decision. It for sure makes keeping up with updates easier, however, given most programs now have update checkers embedded, I'm not so sure it's really needed outside of updates to Flash and such, which I can find out about right here at Wilders...hello, more resources, welcome back!

    Staying Put:

    Sandboxie Paid

    Avast Free

    Peerguardian 2

OpenDNS ( I don't consider this a security app which is why I never listed it before)

Firefox with Noscript, WOT, BetterPrivacy, AdBlockPlus, Ghostery, and TACO.

Talk about your light setup, eh? :)

On my Windows 7 RC machine:
    Realtime:
    Windows built-in Firewall

    On-demand:
    Shadow Defender

On my virtual machine also with Windows 7 RC:
    DefenseWall Personal Firewall v3 (alpha)

Been using this for awhile now:

XP SP2 (with selective patches/updates) with Admin account
    Router NAT/SPI
    IPSec policies
PGS (SRP) and SAFER_Zone for on-the-fly SRP effects
Sandboxie Paid (forced folders and other settings)
Shadow Defender (always shadowed with various exclusions)
Various tweaks and settings that minimize remaining issues.

No popups, minimal configuration, light on resources (in fact, SBIE is the only thing that is always running to use resources and my systray is looking pretty spartan :) ).

Is this considered security or privacy software?
I guess it secures your privacy...

In that case I will add OperaTor in my next update...

It's a little of both actually, Wildest. Most people think of it as protection from anti-P2P organizations, which is what it was originally meant for. However, as these organizations are also usually in the business of media and advertising, IP blocklists started having a side effect of blocking ads and have now grown into including IP addresses associated with malware domains. So yes, it is meant for more privacy-related matters, but has evolved into somewhat of a security application too :)

    More changes, btw:

    Staying:

    Sandboxie Paid

    Avast Free

MVPS HOST with Hostman-Reason: I have now tried every known ad-blocker I could find for use in IE. IE7Pro might as well not have even been installed, it blocked nothing. The Quero bar doesn't suit me because it changes IE around too much. AdMuncher was ok when it didn't start hanging, nor did I really feel like paying that much for simple ad-blocking.

Firefox with AdBlockPlus and Noscript with a few extra extensions

    WOT

    Gone:

    AdMuncher

    Windows XP SP2

    Real-time: Windows FW / OpenDNS

On Most of the time: Faronics Anti-Executable v2.20

On Demand: Dekart Private Disk / VirusTotal [Online scan - new files / Secunia PSI [Online Scan - vunerabilty in existing apps]

    Changes
    1. Got rid of Threatfire as it occasionally locked my system.
    2. Tried Outpost FW , Liked the look of it but it didn't install properly.
    tried twice.
    3. Trying out System Safety Monitor ( SSM ) Free.
    So far its nice.

I think the problem with HIPS is that sometime I like a lot of alerts and other times I don't !
