I have been running AVG Pro 7 for a while now and I'm happy with it. I am also a license holder for Trend Micro Internet Security, but haven't used it for a long time now.

I just got an e-mail from TM to beta test their new version. It's basically a stripped down version of TMIS. Just an AV. No firewall. They are offering a one year free subscription after the beta test is over.

Not sure yet if I will test it out. I want to see if anybody here thinks that TM is a better AV than AVG Pro. Like I said, I like AVG Pro, so I don't want to load another AV on my PC if it's not going to be a big improvement in virus detecting.

    Mannaggia,

Rule number one: never participate in Beta testing unless you do have a spare system to do so. Putting your system in jeopardy isn't recommended.

In case you do have solid backup drives and/or software available, that would be the only reason to take Beta testing into consideration.

    regards.

I would still like to get some thoughts on Trend Micro AV as compared to AVG Pro. :)

Just running tests using Eicar, TM and AVG detection is the same except when trying to download the eicar zip2. TM stops it right there, AVG waits until you try to open it. Also, trying to send an e-mail out with with eicar as an attachment, TM blocks the e-mail from being sent. AVG does not. Geez, maybe I'm answering my own question here. ;)

I'm currently running a Beta Version of Trend Micro AV.
It has nice features and a friendly GUI. Lots of updates as well.
I would choose Trend Micro over AVG Pro. AVG probably uses less resources than Trend, but that's a trade-off you'd have to make.

    regards,
    bill :)

I've been running the Beta Version of Trend Micro AV for five days now. It's running very smoothly. Like eyespy said, lots of updates and nice GUI. Pretty impressed with so far. :)

The decision just became a little easier? I wouldn't recommend a Beta version over AVG Pro, but a new release of PC-cillin over AVG Pro? Yep!!

    regards,
    bill :)

Pc-cillin has always been a pretty fair program. I have used it on and off since pc-cillin 6 up to their internet security version now and I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

From what I can see, the AV portion is the same as in their Trend Micro Internet Security app. They just left out a bunch of stuff that some people don't want in their AV. The GUI is basically the same as TMIS, but with the non functioning parts grayed out.

I'll keep using it along with AVG free as a backup.
