Clone an Auto-S tarting CD into an Auto-Starting USB flash drive

I am a first time poster, so I hope I am in the proper forum section.

I would like to clone an Auto-Starting CD into an Auto-Starting USB flash drive that would start when inserted into the a USB port.

My IBM X40 ThinkPad, when used without the docking base, does not have a CD drive. Thus, when traveling I cannot use my “Rosetta Stone” Spanish language program. This Rosetta Stone program has two disks, one that installs the program and the other that auto-starts the study program when the CD is inserted to provide the graphics and audio for each lesson..

If I could clone the CD to a auto-starting memory stick, I think that I should be able to use the program while traveling.

TI won't do that type of thing.

I would think any program that can load an ISO to a drive letter (UltraISO, for example) or a Virtual CD program (like Farstone's VirtualDrive) would be more appropriate. There may be free versions of these types of programs too, but I haven't used any of them.

 

My X41 came with a copy of Farstone Virtual Drive installed. Did your X40?

 

Microsoft have a little known utility that can mount and run ISO's as drives.

Search the Microsoft website for VCdControlToole.exe - it's only a 30KB application.

so to sum up the actions :

Make an iso file of your CD with imgburn (free) on your hard drive

install a free cd emulator as vcd from Microsoft, or DaemonTools Free edition

Mount ISO file in the virtual CDRom

Oddly enough, I provided a solution for a friend who wanted to use that identical program (Rosetta Stone Spanish) a few weeks ago. He didn't want to be carrying around the cd.
The cd emulation software I used was a free one called Alcohol 62% - yes, strange name. But it works a treat with any .iso file.

 

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. However, none of the programs get past an "error" on the CD from which I am trying to create an ISO file. There are over 500Mbs on the CD, and the conversion programs all stop at about 32Mbs.

I think it has something to do with copy protection. After all, the cd works fine from the dvd drive.
