I have Acronis True Image installed on my desktop and laptop. Same config and settings as far as I can tell. When I set up a boot drive backup and verify as a manual job, the one on the laptop starts immediately after I complete the summary and go to next (or perhaps it's proceed). The backup and verify start immediately with no further switch settings or clicking. But when I do the same thing on the desktop, nothing happens. The job just sits there, and there is nothing I can do to start it. I've tried highlighting it and pressing start, and looking for a setting to initiate the job. Nothing! So when I go back and tell it to schedule the job for one minute for now and then leave it, it starts as soon as the scheduled time is reached. Any hints as to what I'm doing wrong on my desktop?

If it is just a manual backup you want to do, create the bootable Rescue CD and do it from there. You should at least make this CD and test it, since, if your hard drive dies, the CD will be your method to recover.

And also the best way to test your Backup is to do an actual restore of it to a spare hard drive. The next best way to ensure the Backup can be restored successfully is to validate the backup using the CD - not from within Windows. So that CD is going to be your lifeline - you want to make sure it works before you really need it.

I appreciate your response. As far as a Disaster/Recovery CD, I already made one and I will be testing it as soon as I get a chance. I realize its importance. However, your response makes no sense to me in terms of my question, which deals with the fact that, on a normal backup performed on two different machines, one starts automatically when I finish all the parameters of the manual job, and the other one just sits there (on the desktop), and I cannot get it to start unless I make it into a scheduled job. There must be a setting or parameter that I am incorrectly specified. That was the topic of my question.

    Hello abradaxis,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Can you please clarify the exact title of the program and the build number? First of all please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. Check it in Help -> About. You can always download the latest build of the program from your account under Registered Products.

If the issue persists please update Acronis Scheduler using the following article.

    Let us know the results.

    Best regards,

I'm using Acronis True Image Home, Build 9,796. I'm going through the menu to back up my boot drive. I go through all the steps, same as I do on my laptop, but this time on my desktop (both XPSP3). When I finish going through the setup of a manual job, I say next, and nothing happens on the desktop. I have to make it into a scheduled job to start in one or two minutes, and the job kicks off. On the laptop after I set up the manual job, I say next and it starts immediately. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.
