Ah, so that's what it was. :) I never knew why it would throw up prompts all the time the few times running IE - thanks for the heads up. ;)

I won't bother disabling what throws up those prompts specifically since using an alternative browser, thus, no prompts. :D

That reason came to my mind. I was about to test with some definitely innoncent downloads, but you saved my time. Thanks! So the question whether it is good or bad remains open. Such heuristics, however, does not convince me...

From my own experience, Rising PC Doctor protects well "autorun" from usb's and external connected devices.
I've experienced this with a "n1detect.com" infected usb stick after a friend pc repair.
Rising was able to block it (for write something to my HD) and after was easily removed manually from the infected usb stick (a "recycler" folder).

Your choice - I would just use an alternative browser, which is what I think everyone should do anyways, but maybe it throws up the same things in FF too, I dunno. :)

Not, it's very different kind of prog.
It isn't a behavior blocker, or HIPS prog. It's more a "cloud" (online analysis, USB media inmunnizer, IE protector, URL protection and trojan download blocker). It has some usefull advanced tools for online checking services, autoruns, LSP, Process manager, connected app's,...all online checked on demand, and also allows to vote, trust, etc.

You're welcome^^ Actually PC doctor is a useful app. You can see all processes and services and other things in a single application. It's similar to hijackthis I think but it looks more organized. It does react if you visit sites with suspicious scripts when using IE. And is programed to delete autoruns from USB. So you can plug in flashdrives without worrying your pc might get infected. It doesn't need signatures for that so you'll always be protected. I do wonder how it would react with one of those U3 usbs ^^ I'm curious

Hmm... any thoughts on if you don't use IE? Opera, FF, Safari, etc.? Simply considering what you mentioned; scripts (I don't know the technical details how the scripts for IE work on alternative browsers BTW), and what's not mentioned in your post; malware - only when it comes to the hard drive, right? That's, no "web guard".

Boy you switch usage of a lot of Security programs.. :) Good to see you're back with Rising PC Doctor. This program is has improved since many updates to the kernel for it. Now 6.0.0.45 is much better. There freeware international RAV not bad also but I'll still use Avira PE on clients using Comodo Firewall + Proactive Defense 3.10 and RAV on server using Windows Enterprise Firewall.

I change with my thoughts - not "physically" with the software actually (dunno how trjam does though... :D). :D I'm just too quick in my fingers. :D Just to note, however - now I'm running what it says in the sig. ;) :p

Are still using XP Pro or did you switch to Windows 7. MSE still in beta. Avira PE is dead on with MSE Beta.

Yes I see that! :) I had meant to say above the program has changed! I had said not change.. typo.. I didn't care for the MSE was still buggy. Avira PE without nag ad screens catches a lot but I look before I deny before I ignore. I am glad they added this file only feature. But in all RPCD.

I haven't had any problems visiting infected pages (usually it's scripts) with Opera because they simply don't work unless you use IE. When you go to an infected site that's in the blacklist you'll receive an alert before the page loads. But it's not in the list but has a suspicious script then it will alert you as you when it scans the script. But that's only in IE.

I did not make myself clear. I was concerned that it would not run in a limited user account, only a admin account.
    Thanks.

Yes I know what you meant.. Once you install it on any PC it will be available for all users and they can run and change settings. You as an Admin can run security using the OS file protection on the files and allow and deny features from users who have limited access. So in other words you can limit users from disabling the software.

Has Rising PC Doctor replaced Rising AV? If not, what is the difference between the two? Are they meant to be used together, or do they overlap? thanks

So RIS doesn't all the functions found in PC Doctor, but can on the other hand monitor PC Doctor's status to make sure its functions are working and protecting you?

... and I've gone back to XP. :)

I get never get the embedded images to work here so follow this link (okay it worked!)

See the Found 0 vulnerablilities that's RPCD working with RIS as a monitor. You click on that it opens RPCD up. Why did you return to XP. I can't see everyone going to W7 just yet. Maybe one day..
