Files/Folders Super Guard or Super Lock

I wonder if there is such a program exists. Perhaps it does so I'd better ask.

There are files and folders you don't edit or access frequently. Ideally I would like to completely lock up the files that I rarely alter.

No programs are allowed to edit/alter all files/folders which are marked locked. But I'm not sure if it can distinguish command executed by me or by a program.

OK, what about this if the above is not possible? Every time you want to edit/alter those files you have to pass some verification, be it password, or doing something like only human can do, like read the screen and click.

In short I want a program which can (1) lock read access (2) lock any change (not just the content but the file as a whole, ie. the checksum never changes) (3) pass through some checks or verification before I make any change.

 

I use universal shield to lock/hide my folders. It lets you hide the folders/files or only allows you to read them but not make changes or a combination of settings. The computer boots up with your folders protected, you need to use a password to disable the protection.
For me I prefer to use this on large folders where encryption would be overkill. I've used this program for about 3 years and is very reliable.

 

You can use Defense+ in Comodo Internet Security to allow file changes selectively. You could also put rarely used files in a TrueCrypt container.

I use 'My Lockbox' and also have their 'Flash Crypt' which has a 256 military grade AES - both are freeware and might be worth a look at,

I would probably use either FreeOTFE or TrueCrypt.

Or if they are not big files/folders, you could use 7-Zip and encrypt them as a 7z archive (choosing AES-256 and Encrypt file names.) This will hide them very effectively...

I'm okay with it if the file locking program would really lock the files and folders from all sort of modications.

Isn't encryption slightly overkilling and less convenient than file locking programs? My main purpose is to make it unable for any program to read/modify (or malware to infect the files) except me. Privacy is less of an concern in this case. I think it takes some time to encrypt and decrypt the big folder and file. So encryption program would be less convenient if you want to read/edit it ocassionally.
