A few days after installing Returnil, my Vista Premium experienced a major crash. Although it rebooted instantly, on subsequent restarts the system deteriorated rapidly. Chkdsk, scheduled by the system, discovered over a thousand problems. (System) files had been corrupted and the mbr was damaged so that Alt-F11 (recovery) was ignored. System eventually went into a chkdsk, reboot, chkdsk loop. Vista recovery dvd (from neowin, good show) could not repair the system. As far as I remember, no other new software had been installed after Returnil. What may be significant is that it happened at almost exactly midnight. Task scheduler lists System Restore as the only service with an obvious 00:00 (midnight) runtime. 2.0.1.9002 Premium Vista Premium SP2 No RAID Kaspersky AV 7.0.1.125 ZoneAlarm Pro 8.0.059.000

I would like to oblige, but the system was wiped. Thankfully, with some luck, and time, the recovery partition could be accessed and the backup images functioned. I'm not even sure it was Returnil, but with the unrecoverable nature of the event, thought I'd let you know.
