Registry editors

Are there any recommended FREE registry editors?

I used one about 6 years ago, but cannot recall which.

Registar Lite downloaded from Resplandence has nag screen.

Registrar Lite v. 2.0 doesn't have nag screen, and it's very good. The link to download it is in link "Another thread" Pedro'post.

 

I used Registrar Lite earlier today.

 

I did not notice a nag screen. maybe I did not use it long enough.

Is not 2.0 a Beta?

 

2.0 isn't beta in fact. It was the Lite v. without nag screen (isn't annoyance perhaps).

Some features aren't available in Lite now (Security menu, e.g.).

 

We are not talking about the same thing Registrar Lite is version 6.0.3.31015.

I tried Registry Workshop.

I was impressed enough to decide to buy it.
There will be a new edition in a few daze, I'll wait until then.

For personal use, it may be used on as many computers as you wish.

Why does it impress you so much? What can it do that free options can't?

 

+1. Try Registar Lite.At least it's much better than MS default registry editor.

 

Compared with the other progs I tried:

1. It was clearly faster.
2. The license allowed for installation on as many computers as you wish for personal use. I actually found 1 free prog that limited install to a single system.
3. Unlimited support during life of product. About 6 years ago, I almost purchased another prog, but I did not because the license had only 6 months of support, now it's 1 year. For this type of program, if properly designed, there really should be sfew, if any, support issues.
4. The programmer is well known by his other works.
5. Prog allows exporting of keys. One of the better free progs does not.
6. Another free prog was poorly documented, etc, and weak in features.
7. As a very experienced programmer, I've got the scars to show for it, I can tell that the program was well designed and programmed.
8. Lastly, I liked the interface better than others.

 

Another vote for Regseeker but even with the backup function, be careful with red item's unless you use some sort of image program (safe here but not for all, very aggressive). Another good one is the last free version of jv16: http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/index.html (can be set to find green (safe) entries only but doesn't work on Vista).

Not free, but imho Registry First Aid Platinum is best of breed.

 

Over the years, I've tried several.

6 years, or so, ago, I tried Registry Toolkit and liked it. Indeed, I would have purchased the critter, but, at that time, the license only provided 6 months of support. Last I checked, it now offers 1 year of support.

Over the past 6 years, I would have found a registry editor to be useful, but I foolishly did not make the leap until this month,

This month I tried the Lite version of Registrar Registry. It's a good program. However, the free version did not allow for exporting registry keys, so the free version would not do the job for me. I never did try the pay version.

Registry Workshop was very impressed, allows installation on more than 1 computer and has lifetime support. I ASSuME that the latter means that when version 5 is released there will no longer be support for the current version (4.2.0, released 9 July 2009).

In any case, I'm only willing to spend a limited amount of time investigating freebies when I can buy a quality program for $29.95.

So, ask for recommendations
I would say, pick 2 or 3 progs to compare.
The 3 I mention supra are good places to start.

I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may get me in a ~Snip~ contest.

beat dead horse? maybe.
anyway.. +1 for Registry Workshop.

my reasons:
1) native x64 app = fast + no wow64 redir issues on x64
2) updates have been timely
3) search functions are amazing

there are a handful of other reasons that this beats the pants off all other registry editors. but I think those I listed there are my tops.
