I know that Panda AR is a pretty old version by now, even if I use it myself incase I would be infected with a rootkit. Is it still kept up-to-date thanks to its cloud?

    Hmm,

You got me here, latest version is from may this year. PM Pbust and you will known. Some other AV companies seperate rootkits also date from may this year.

    Cheers

Sorry, yes I've had SP2 since RC, corrected my post to SP2. Damn thanks for noticing that, I've been posting SP1 in my list for a while now when I've had SP2. Guess that happened cause I just copy over my previous list and modify the updated software and missed the OS part.

    Hmm,
the product that 10 years ago I wished would burn in hell.

That the entire company would be leveled by a meteor.

That the colors yellow and black would be banned from the face of the earth.

That anyone with the name Norton, would have to actually look like Norton from Jackie Gleason.

That if I ever even thought of looking at their product line again, my manhood would fall off.

Man, do times change. Do times really change.;) :thumb:

    Found this by chance :shifty:
Next time please PM me if you want me to jump into a thread :)

Panda Anti-Rookit (PAVARK) is focused on finding generic rootkit techniques rather than using rootkit signatures. It does have some signatures but its mostly for naming stuff rather than finding it. The techniques it uses are still mostly valid with today's rookits. The problem is getting the time to port it to Vista & Windows7, that's why it may seem outdated. But I can assure you it's still very good at finding rootkitted XP boxes and we still receive loads of new rootkits every day through PAVARK submissions thanks to its generic approach.

    Kerodo,

Do you know what is true about the (fairy) tale that Avira's rootkit protection does not work completely at 64 bits Vista/Windows7 ?

    Cheers Kees

This is subject to change as for now I got Outpost working if I allow all with Avira's WebGuard and turn off "detect full screen mode."

    Hi all,

I decided to try something different.
I removed Avira and running this as resident:

OA+ w/ip blacklist and all guards active, DefenseWall 2.56, SpywareBlaster and WinPatrol +.

I believe all bases are covered.

    I respect your opinions here.
If you think I'm off the wall, let me know.
    Thanks :D

By the way the computer is alot more responsive without the scanner running constantly.

    Hi danny9,

Well, I have two of your four as resident and I am feeling pretty confident that I am good to go!:isay: ;)

SpywareBlaster and WinPatrol+ are like 2 old friends.
Besides an extra couple layers never hurt. :D

If you install Avira on a x64 machine (I have) there is no provision to scan for rootkits. I don't know whether this means it won't detect any downloading, but it won't scan for rootkits on demand (I could be wrong, but I think this is due to the x64 Kernel Patch Guard).
