    Thanks Macstorm and BadCompany.

I was sarcastic with the tech support... Nonetheless, I've just received an e-mail concerning my problem with re-installation... which I had solved with you guys two weeks ago.

I did sent my e-mail requests to all possible emails... even to Matt...

Unfortunately, I did bought the software over the internet on the USA Site (download ) which makes it impossible for ultimatesecurity to help me. ( reason given last time... )

I hope everything will be solved one day because I'm still happy with the Gdata software.... only not with the support.

    PS. Will PM FordPrefect.

    Hi Alex,

probably something went wrong with the multi-license mechanism because you had to reinstall G Data on your first system after os-reinstall.
The second G Data installation on your first system could have been assumed as activation of your second "license".
Just agree to "transfer the license". Perhaps you will also be asked to transfer the license when updating your first system - please agree to this transfer, too.
It´s seems to be a cyclic mechanism. You can transfer the license up to 10 times (for each of your licenses).
If still problems occur get in contact with rokopATgdata.de.

    In general:
if you are using a license for 3 PC you just got 1 license key.
After installing on the first system you have to register for updates by entering the license key and you will receive your access data (user name and pw).
When setting up the second and third system you just have to enter these access data.

    Best regards,
    Ford

This is the description from the help file:-

The advantage of using the default security levels is that you can adapt the firewall to your individual requirements without too much administrative input or specialist knowledge of network security. You can set the security level by simply adjusting the slide control. The following security levels are available:

    · Maximum security: The firewall rules are generated using very strict guidelines. In this case you should be familiar with specialised network concepts (TCP, UDP, Ports etc.). The firewall detects the slightest inconsistency and will issue numerous alerts during the learning phase.

    · High security: The firewall rules are generated using very strict guidelines. So you should be familiar with specialised network concepts (TCP, UDP, ports, etc.). The firewall may issue numerous alerts during the learning phase.

    · Normal security: The firewall rules are generated at application level only. Wizards keep network-specific details away from you. You will be queried as little as possible during the learning phase.

    · Low security: The firewall rules are generated at application level only. Wizards keep network-specific details away from you. You will only be rarely queried during the learning phase. This level of security still offers highly effective protection against any connection requests that may occur.

    · Firewall disabled: You can disable the firewall completely if required. This means that your computer is still connected to the Internet and any other networks, but the firewall is no longer protecting it against attacks or electronic espionage.

I am on my last couple days' trial of GData internet security suite.

I like it overall, but I have found that every time I restart the computer, Flashget has to be cleared manually, as does a "Gizmo" utility I use to create a couple virtual DVD drives - I have found no permanent clearing for these, and as you may have read in my previous post, I did place a tech support request with GData some time ago (weeks ago).

None the less, I am between GData and OutPost, and one GData offering that interested me was the license for three home computers, and the claim that there is special pricing available from a pop-up that GData initiates upon startup.

Whenever I click that link though I am sent to a page to renew my subscription and at best case the pricing is no different than what I found off the web. The possible complication is that the pages that follow that selection show pricing in British Pounds, and show 29 and 39 respectively for single and three station licensing, so if this is in error, at best the pricing is what I can get anyway and the claim of a discounted offer that they make is not correct, however, if in fact the pricing is in BP, then the cost is more than double what can normally be found.

I would like to know if anyone out there can clear this confusion up and show me where the three station license can be had for under $39.00 so as to prove their advertising truthful; for if proven untruthful, what assurances could I reasonably rely upon that they make whatsoevero_O

As a side note, if you read my posting in this forum earlier about having a couple requests in for support and that I feared I wouldn't get a response back from GData until after my trial expired (after reading through a number of complaints about GData support department), it would appear I was unfortunately correct as I have yet to hear back from them and it has been almost a month (and I am not placing my request in German nor from Germany!). Rather pitiful.

If it were not for the pricing confusion (claiming a discount and no discount to be seen, the word "confusion" being used to give the benefit-of-the-doubt in their favor that no intention to mislead ever was present) and the now evident poor support, I would not be considering OutPost at this time - I would have already been a GData customer.

    In summation:

    1. How can the three station license be purchased for a discounted price over the $39.xx I believe I can get it for from normal links?
    2. Is their normal tech support as lacking as that which I have experienced with two trouble-tickets?

    Still liking G Data...

Another thing I've noticed and maybe it is something I'm doing incorrectly. It isn't adding information to e-mails. Like the current data base version and web address (I believe).

    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks
    Chuck

Under e-mail options, it seems that you can check it to add info to outgoing emails (which is unchecked by default) but seems the option for incoming emails is just if they're infected. That's what I read from the options anyway. I haven't got the outgoing option checked so not sure if this works - is this what you're referring to or incoming emails?

Concerning email...I tried GData and since I am trialling several possible solutions, uninstalled it. Now, every time I open Outlook I get a message regarding the inability to load the GData addin for outlook. I can't disable the addin since it's no longer there and I can't uninstall it since the program is gone. Any ideas? It's becoming a nuisance. Thanks in advance.

Close Outlook and go to C:\Users\YOURACCOUNT\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook (this is the vista path - the extend.dat is located in the same directory as the .pst file).
Delete the extend.dat file (Outlook manages PlugIns in this file - the file will be created new with next start of Outlook).

If still problems occure close Outlook, delete extend.dat again and check the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions

Delete values regarding G Data (e.g AntiSpamKit Outlook, G DATA AVK Mail).

    hth,
    Ford

I think for incoming email it will only append info if it is infected.

So when I'm in Outlook and hit the new email/message button, it is just a blank email waiting for me to type. Maybe it does it when you actually send something. I will check this out and let you guys know...

    Nope, that didn't work...

Oh well, maybe when an update comes out they'll fix that problem.

I really like it so far. It doesn't slow down my PC at all. I love NOD32 for this reason...so I'm glad G Data doesn't slow it down either. I feel really safe with it for some reason...

Thank you, Ford Prefect, that has taken care of the problem. Otherwise I was very pleasantly surprised by G Data 2010; much lighter and faster than I remembered or expected.

Well, I bought it and it instantly updated the program....

    I'm now at version 20.0.4.35 (6/19/2009)

I can't really tell what is different except in Firefox now, the whitelisting button is all in one now...

I bought Gdata Internet Security. I didn't need the version with backup..I use Acronis for that!

Mine's still at version 2.0.2.1 and says no program update is available. Does anyone know why this is? Is the program update being rolled out over time?

I'm running Vista 64 bit. I wonder if that has something to do with the difference?

    Maybe??

Well, it's been some time since I asked for some guidance from tech support on a couple issues. I just posted a new request to them asking why have I not heard back from them, and where one finds the "special" pricing that is referred to by the pop-up.

I hope to find these problems are a simple miscommunication; it would be rather sad if otherwise - or worse if I still get no response...

To be fair, I will submit a question or two to the OutPost tech support department. I guess if both company's tech support is nonexistent then there would be no reason to hold that against GData in comparison.

I used Google translate from German to English, correct it if it's a bad translate.

    • Increasing the robustness of the virus databases (System, crash during the upgrade, etc.)
    • Update and other jobs not start immediately after boot, but with a delay
    • Start the update with an active Internet connection "on Vista optimized
    • Improving the rootkit testing ad
    • New design for virus discoveries
    • Revision of zeitgeplanten scans of all drives and desktop items
    • Incremental update phishing revised
    • TopSecret in all parts of revised
    • Implementation of the alternative interface to the Vista Security Center
    • Improved integration of the Vista gadgets

I'm running Vista x64 too! I'm in the UK - not sure if that has something to do with it. Different servers maybe?

Perhaps the update isn´t released for all available product versions yet.

If you don´t receive a program update, check your registry and post the decimal value of "Product" at hklm\software\g data\AntiVirenKit\OnlineUpdates.
