I'm, and not even together with TF. Has been running smooth and effective, except for some update-issues (not updating, even with the damn requirement of Automatic Updates as it seems - has this been taken up at their forums?), or maybe slow at releasing new ones. This shouldn't be too much of a problem though - new malware is still handled by Dynamic Signatures anyway, and then the user has the opportunity to send new information on the specific file on his/her system. I'm not surfing too dangerously nowadays I guess, but I think MSE has catched anything that's tried to infect me. Have Avira Free and Hitman Pro as backups, and nothing is found there, so MSE is doing its job.

Okay, take a look at this. I've one allowed item, through TotalProtect testing (see its "official" topic in the Anti-Malware section), but lots of quarantined items. Now, when you look at the history, the default is to show all items, and then you can choose to show either Quarantined or Allowed items. When looking at this section, there was nothing in the window where it should show everything that had happened - not Quarantined or Allowed, but when looking at each separately, it correctly showed everything.

The first screenshot is from where it should show all, the second is from the Quarantined-section.

I'll quote: "I'm not surfing too dangerously nowadays I guess, but I think MSE has catched anything that's tried to infect me. Have Avira Free and Hitman Pro as backups, and nothing is found there, so MSE is doing its job." :D

Dunno... it's been very light on my system (dunno about CPU cycles, but haven't noticed a thing), but I can see a big possibility that other users may get problems on their PCs as it's indeed a beta. ;)

I believe there might be a bug with the heuristics and a certain type of packer, it seems to be very rare and doesn't last very long.

I've just reverted to Vista32, only because I'm really addicted to Shadow Defender, and it works fine with MSE.

Like I said, there's probably some file it's scanning that it's bugged on.

I believe it already boot's really early as-is, and self-protection is a gimmick, if something got past it to kill it, it doesn't matter whether it's active or not. It runs automatically in safe mode anyway.

As much as I appreciate you linking directly to the file, is there an article somewhere explaining this fix and how to apply it? Is it patch or is it a new MSE version, etc..

After seeing this, I gave MSE another try. I didn't use the FixIt file but did edit the reg entry and added the quotes myself. Adding the quotes did fix the issue of Explorer opening the first Microsoft Folder it could find on startup as well as the tray icon issue. For me, MSE is extremely slow with a quick scan taking 30 minutes although one is led to beleive that future scans are somehow going to be faster although I could be mis-understanding the first scan warning. MSE is heavy on mem usage and during scan cpu was maxing out most of the time. Shutdown/Restart was a good bit slower with MSE installed. MSE also switched me from Windows Update to Microsoft Update which I don't care for but could live with it. The right click scan functions real well plus it's fast which is suprising to me. Browsing/Download doesn't seem any slower. All in all it appears to be a decent beta product for me and my use. I'm going to continue using it for at least week before I decide whether to rollback or not.

I just want to report that the problems I experienced with the automatic updates are gone. I don't know whether this is due to the fact that I'm back to Vista32, whatever it is, MSE is now silently and automatically updating.

I have a good feeling about it, and from 'my point of view' Avira could have a serious contender to the throne.

Agree - with working updates and if the software evolves in the protection it delivers (especially with their Dynamic Definitions), they're becoming seriously dangerous. ;) The operation of the software is really good. I'll still be honest though... Norton has with 2010 found just the right approach, and especially being a huge company with great research capabilities. Just... check it out: http://community.norton.com/t5/Nort...et-Security-2010-Download-Insight/ba-p/113827 - they're really listening to their customers as well and want to hear all the details what the users think is good - and really bad. I simply want this baby put to the test with some really new malware, to see how it works in the real-world, so I'll post a request-topic about it right now. That article is just about one component of the program taking use of their cloud-tech. Then we've the others; SONAR, Anti-Spam, you name it.

Did anybody tried it together with PrevX or Defensewall?
I am almost certain that one of the 2 cause the issues I have with MSE, like every folder get refreshed every time I open the folder, but i didnot yet uninstall prevx and defensewall, just looking for people who too use this together with MSE.

Read the top of page 17 about Defensewall, Prevx works fine with MSE.

Is anyone aware of any MS blog or such information accessible by people excluded from the test? Possibly information on beta2 or progress?
