I just downloaded the latest version of Ad Aware, but I am unable to install this version, since my computer doesn't seem to recognize the fact that it is installed. That is, when I go to control panel, then to add and remove programs, Ad Aware isn't on the list. It is however in the programs menu, and it works. Would anybody know whether it would be safe to remove Ad Aware by deleting the folders manually? Any suggestions on deleting Ad Aware would be welcomed.

    Hi,

Have you tried going to the Ad-Aware folder in Program Files, and doubleclicking Unwise.exe?

Well, as you're running v5.81, I think you could install the 5.83 on top of yours.

there were a lot of people that had probs with getting rid of 5.81 in order to install 5.83. a lot of discussion and finally a solution came out of it. lavasoft board has been down for awhile now. you might want to wait until they come back online to ck out what the solution is. i can't remember and it was a bit lengthy.

A couple of respectfully submitted suggestions..

as Tony suggested...you can try installing 5.81 over v.581.......then try un-installing...then install v5.83

if that does work...RegCleaner should un-install it...make a backup and keep in regcleaner just in case......

Murray. Copy your ignore list and any backups to a safe folder, then delete \program files\lavasoft\ad-aware\. If you are comfortable with editing the registry, the keys to remove are HKEY_current_user\software\lavasoft\ad-ware and HKEY_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Ad-aware(version number). Or you can use Regcleaner to remove the entries. http://www.jv16.org It's not entirely necessary to remove the registry entries before installing the new version.
Once you have 5.83 installed, move your ignore list and backups back into the folder, then get the current reffile. Delete \program files\lavasoft\ad-aware\reffile.awr and replace it with the updated one.

Thanks all. Mike, that all sounds kind of complicated, but...I'm sure that I can find a 10 year old somewhere that understands these thins perfectly.

Download a trial copy of RegCrawler, My favorite registry program,,

In the program do a search of AdAware

Delete all the references, Delete the Ad Aware Folders in the Programs group. Then reinstall the new version OR

Have somebody e-mail you the unwise.exe file ;^)
