    Hi,

When I was a novice (I'm still a novice:oops: ), the first security product I ever used was Kaspersky.
I think I used it when it was version 5.
It was very heavy by then, however IMHO it is quite light now,
and it seems to be getting lighter every version.

    I heard that there are two extereme comments about this product;
    Good vs Bad.

What exactly is Good/Bad about this product?

I'm sorry if this question is a poor one.

I just wanted to be sure if I am making the right decision to buy this product.

    Thanks in advance.

Try the new version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, it is enough you would not require any other security products : From HIPS/AV/Sandbox/Firewall eveything .... very good....:thumb: :)

It seems like a real ALL-IN-ONE security suite. :)

    The bad:

    1. Bloated with features like Sandboxie, Privacy Cleaner, etc., which are ideally not required in an Internet Security Suite.

    2. Poor detection/removal of Rouge app.

    3. Does not have a complete disinfection routine for Trojan.Downloader. Only the specific Trojan.Downloader is detected, it has negligible detection of the malwares that are downloaded by the Trojan.

    4. iSwift and iChecker technologies marks the files that are previously scanned and prevents further rescan. So, if a malware is not in the detection bases at a specific time, and its gets scanned once, it will not be rescanned by Realtime AV for a definite interval of time.

    5. Instead of a single integrated base, the detection bases are a bundle of several tiny files (about 1000 files). So there is maximum possibility of bases fragmentation.

And before I get bashed by HARDCORE kaspersky fans, lemme tell that Kaspersky is the BEST Security Suite in the entire Universe...(phew!)

Ans: How can Sandbox and privacy cleaner is bloated.... sandbox browsers can virtually prevent any malware from intruding in ur system

Ans: Incorrect... you need to refresh ur memory Kaspersky achieves above 98% detection of spyware/rogue progs avtest.org and can equally well clean rogue programs from ur pc check in reviews...

Ans: Totally baseless... what proof do u have... it is not effective... in cleaning viruses/trojans better than most of av

Ans: It only marks for files which are harmless, which are to be excluded from future scans, to speed up scanning. Malware/ new files are always scanned for the first time

Ans: Even ur pc has thousands of files/ so ur pc will be fragmented after sometime, so u need to defragment. The type of updates of kaspersky is differential/incremental, it will only update new files/components.

Make a list of things you demand or want from a suite and then try Kaspersky if it fits your needs. If it doesn't, then try something else until you find something you are satisfied with. All suites from well known vendors are world class security programs.

end of the day all applications are different and people like different things. i found it shocking but some people love it, so try for yourself, because nobody can give you an answer just their opinion.

    The truth :thumb: :thumb:

Kaspersky is one of the best, period.
And like mentioned in this post, the only way your gonna know how good a product is actually run it. Dont just rely on testing websites.

I've ran Kaspersky in the darker sides on the internet, places where the average user doesnt go,and Kaspersky does excellent :thumb:

1.....and what's the need of privacy cleaner? If they doesn't make the app bloated, then there should be an inbuild Media Player, Disk Defragmentor, Browser, Backup, etc....right?

    2. Pratically speaking, as far as I have conducted the tests, by collecting malwares from honeypots and infected PCs, it sure does have a poor detection rate of Rouge App.

    3. Well, I can PROVE it, but it's against the board rules to sumbit malware samples. However, you can randomly grab a Trojan.Downloader, from "there". Execute it in sandboxie, then allow it to download the malwares. Now send the Trojan.Downloader to the labs. The specific downloader will be added to the detection bases, but the malwares that are downloaded by the Trojan.Downloader will not be added to the detectoin bases, unless ofcourse you manually send it to the labs.

    4. Please have a closer look, how iSwift and iChecker ACTUALLy works.

    5. I see no point in keeping the bases scattered all around the disk. It should be integrated for the sake of speed. As a matter of fact, the AVP tool from Kaspersky Labs, already has integrated Mega Base. It reflects the fact that integrated bases are better.

    1. The Privacy cleaner is just a bonus from AVZ tools subsystem.

    2. As do other AVs generally. Applications like SAS and MBAM wouldn't exist if that wasn't the case.

    3. And you guarantee that it downloads the same files every time or that it isn't in some way connected to the Country/location or system environment (localization etc.)? The files on the server could be morphing. Above that, if the root cause is blocked, the files can't be downloaded anyway.

    4. It's not that dumbed and simplistic. It has a special algorithm so it knows when to re-scan, it's not just scan + never scan again. I have never seen malware which is detected by the bases being missed due to iSwift/iChecker in released versions. Several other vendors have similar functionality as well.

    5. AVPTool is different, it has no built in update functionality. You would have to redownload the megabase file on each update, opposed to incremental updates. And it has no noticeable affect on AV speed.

The problem here might be the definition of rogue applications. This doesn't just apply to KL; some competing vendors have the same issues.

Some rogues are detected as a fraudtool, but others are not simply because the virus analysts say there is no malicious code in the file. This is often correct, but at the same time the fraudulent security program exists and some people fall for the scam.

I came across a recent example and submitted it to KL for analysis as it wasn't being detected. The result was there is no malicious code in the file. However, the file and domain where it comes from is on a number of malware domain blocklists because it's a rogue security program/fraudulent software. KL wasn't the only vendor not to detect this either.

I personally prefer Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2010 (KIS2010) just officially released yesterday by KasperskyLab team.
It looks great and even compared to its previous KIS2009. IT is more sophisticated and cover most security points of a windows workstation OS (I dislike its removal of support windows server oS).
One thing I still dislike KIS is it still does not support case-by-case handling applications with parameters at runs as OnlineAmor does all the time to applications in advanced setup.

With KIS2010, you are totally not worrying about the windows box anymore, let KIS takes care of all security things for you staying safe and secured either online or standalone uses.

not truth, if you run in advanced mode (to some extent in basic mode also) you will be asked/protected by KIS HIPS, if you can deal with questions properly you will be free of unknown malware damage (at least unknown malware will not be "installed" properly), in other words "you'll never walk alone", kaspersky always ask for behavior of unknown file...

    {Snipped off topic tangent - Blue}

kaspersky 2010 is a very decent product. it is still a bit rough around the edges since it has only just been released.

if you sent KL a malware sample or an FP you will normally get a reply from a human in roughly an hour stating the situation and that the change will appear in the next update.

The only thing bad about Kaspersky is the performace, slows down internet and somewhat not light on a pc. Other than that it is the best protection to prevent malware and other threats.
