It seems they straightened out the version number confusion and released it this morning. Here are the release notes FWIW.

Release Notes for Acronis True Image 2009 Home Build 9796
Acronis True Image Home 2009 is now Certified for Windows Vista.

Acronis True Image Home 2009 enables you to back up and restore critical data, manage disks and partitions, recover from malware or simply from effects of undesirable software.

The Acronis Startup Recovery Manager lets you start Acronis True Image Home 2009 without loading the operating system, e.g. when Windows won't start up for some reason. Combined with the Acronis Secure Zone, the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager lets you recover your system and/or restore data without bootable media such as CDs or external storage devices.

The Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and Acronis Secure Zone have been updated as follows:

The Acronis Startup Recover Manger is no longer installed in the Acronis Secure Zone. It remains resident on the primary partition. All other executable components of Acronis True Image Home 2009 run on the primary partition under the Windows operating system.

It is therefore not necessary to create the Acronis Secure Zone in order to activate the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. You can activate the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager when you run Acronis True Image Home 2009 for the first time by selecting the appropriate checkbox in the One-Click Protection options. You can also activate the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager later by choosing "Activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" in the Tools menu.

You can now access the Acronis Secure Zone using the Windows operating system installed on your primary partition.

When you create the Acronis Secure Zone, an icon will appear under My Computer in the Other section. Double-clicking on the Acronis Secure Zone icon will open the Acronis Secure Zone so that you can view all backup archives stored in it. You can also explore the Acronis Secure Zone contents using Windows explorer. If the Acronis Secure Zone is password-protected, any operation except viewing backup details will require entering the password.

Using Windows Explorer, you can double-click on an archive to open it and show all backups (full, incremental, differential) belonging to the archive. Right-clicking on a specific backup opens a shortcut menu allowing you to choose a desired operation — mount (for image archives), restore, validate, update, remove the backup, and view backup's details. Double-clicking on a backup will start the default operation ("Mount" for image backups and "Restore" for data backups).

NOTE: The Acronis Secure Zone is not hidden from the end user or the computer's primary operating system. Backup data on the Acronis Secure Zone is therefore not impervious to programs and processes performed on the primary partition.

Please refer to Acronis True Image Home 2009 documentation for more information: http://download.acronis.com/pdf/TrueImageHome2009_UserGuide_Eng.pdf

    System requirements

    System requirements
    Minimum system requirements

Acronis True Image Home requires the following hardware:

    Pentium processor or higher
    128 MB RAM
CD-RW/DVD-RW drive for bootable media creation
Mouse or other pointing device (recommended).

    Supported operating systems

    Windows XP SP 3
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2
Windows Vista SP 2 (all editions)
Newly supported applications for application settings backup:
    Program name New Supported version
    ICQ 6.5
    Opera 9.63

    Fixed issues
Fixed resetting of password and encryption options when editing a task prior to its first run
Fixed the issue of incorrect log entry when scheduled task for incremental backup to USB HDD (which is recognized as non-removable) fails when this HDD is not present, but the log says "Operation has succeeded."
Fixed loss of some default "File level security options" during My Data task creation
Known issues and limitations of the version:
Acronis True Image Home is unable to search:
Archives in ZIP and TIB format on removable media
Archives in ZIP format using GDS and WDS
Archive to various places (AVP) does not work with FTP Server and the Acronis Secure Zone.
Acronis True Image Home doesn't support backing up in compressed zip format to CD/DVD.
The progress bar hangs when writing backups to CD\DVD. Please note that this does not prevent successful completion of the backup.
Acronis True Image Home does not support GUID Partition Table (GPT) and dynamic disks. Dynamic disks are a type of RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) storage supported by the Microsoft Windows operating system. Hardware-based RAID sets are supported by the software.
When upgrading from Acronis True Image 11 Home, tasks are not ported to Acronis True Image Home 2009. Also, it will not be possible to edit tasks created with Acronis True Image 11 home, and previously created scheduled tasks must be recreated following the upgrade.
When updating from ATIH 11 with activated Acronis True Image Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) to Acronis True Image Home 2009, the ASRM operates in trial mode by default. The user will not be able to create backups, only restore backups. In order to create backups from the ASRM, first deactivate the ASRM by going to Tools->Activate Startup Recovery Manager->Deactivate and then re-activate the ASRM by going to Tools->Activate Startup Recovery Manager->Activate

The version conflict has not been resolved. From the registered products page the executable file name indicates that it is build 9796. Downloading the installation file and checking its version build 9791 is shown. Installing the application and going to Help > About build 9791 is displayed. At this point I have to believe that build 9791 is what I have but cannot be certain. Confusing.

This is what I find for the MD5 checksums for the files downloaded this morning:

True Image 2009 Home, build 9796 Installation File:
    MD5 Check Sum: D68AA97B8ABF22DB25D2C6F9B29A1D95

Media Add-ons For Acronis True Image Home 2009:
    MD5 Check Sum: DD7B81673289A0C4E4A25A0C5B805DA8

Same MD5 checksum as Build 9791, really confusing... :doubt:

    CRC32: 4CDF1A4B
    MD5: D68AA97B8ABF22DB25D2C6F9B29A1D95
    SHA-1: 548DFC97201BB506B3005610F52F76F8D0D9806D

That convinces me that this build is 9791 not 9796.

As I mentioned yesterday in another thread, I was told in a "live Chat" there is NO build 9791. It is a GUI mistake and is build 9796. I was given a link to d/l 9796, which I did, same MD5 as posted by Bruce.

I went to my "updates" page today, it now shows 9796, I d/l it, same MD5 as posted by Bruce and same as I d/l yesterday.

I'm glad my life doesn't depend on knowing the exact build I have.
I do know it is slightly different than 9709, I do know it did and back up and restore w/o any problems.
I do think that is probably all I need to know right now.;)

It seems like a case of the "left hand" not knowing what the "right hand" is doing, which seems to happen a lot in the True Image organization (or should that be "disorganization"). :D

It perhaps is not a show stopper but so many times Acronis asks users to install the latest build and references the build number. Many posters have asked how to find the build number. This will lead to confusion for many. Build 9791 may not exist but this is what I see:

In addition the properties of the downloaded file say 12.0.0.9791 for Product version and File version. So it seems 9796 exists only in the name of the downloaded file and the text on the Acronis Product Updates page.

The version for the Add-ons file is also 9791.

Hopefully Acronis will either post new files for download or remove the references to build 9796 from the release notes etc whichever is appropriate.

I thought it was because after his late shift at McDonalds he couldn't tell the difference between a 1 and a 6. :D

I was curious (and bored) so I asked about this in a chat session:

Yes, we are facing this with our latest build 9796, that it shows 9791. We are working on this and will get it correct in 2-3 days.

So I should expect to see a new build appear on the updates page?

Yes, you will get the update about the latest build on the new update page or you may signup with our newsletters, to get the news and update about your Acronis product.

Here they go with that again! Have they actually tried signing up for the newsletter themselves to see how many "New Build" messages they receive?

I've been signed up for the newsletter for 4 or 5 years and have never received one message about a new build.

It would be nice if Acronis Support commented on this latest fiasco.

This is just more evidence that there is no quality control done by Acronis.
Its also proof that the subscription service does not work.

Time to check out the competition.

On the UK site the current release is also said to be build 9796 on the support page. What you really get if you check your registered product upgrade is build 9770 which is a (for me) non-working version of the product that has been distributed there for now 3 weeks.

I am sitting on 9709 (UK release) until I hear of an occasionally-working new release on these forums. The 9709 build is also very buggy, but at least I can get a basic disk image backed up if I unplug my USB HDD before the program starts.

If you have serious issues with 9709 you could try updating the Acronis services as suggested recently by acronis: http://kb.acronis.com/content/1514.

So what's the point of a "secure zone" if any program/process can access it?

    Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

I can confirm that build #9697 is seen like build #9691. This discrepancy will be fixed soon.

    Thank you.

There is a new 2009 version on the Acronis updates page, numbered 9796 and dated today. I haven't installed it yet but at least the file details say 9796, not 9791.
