Oh right... forgot this is the day they release it public. :D Could anyone tell me what versions the things are in the public version so can compare my originally leaked version, or just take a screenshot. Thanks. :)

Surprisingly the leaked version was 1.0.2140.0, but as per MS the latest MSE is 1.0.1407.00.

    Hmmm....

Just a few minutes ago I uninstalled the leaked beta, and installed the official MSE beta. I set up a scheduled full scan for 2PM today. The scan started at 1:33 PM. o_O Well, it does say above the Time box in the scheduling setup, "Around" 2PM, 3PM, 4PM, etc. So I guess 1:33PM is close. ;) :)

I do like MSE, I just wish it had a log file. Maybe there is a suggestion box somewhere in the MSE beta page.

EDIT.....I passes the EICAR test. It stops it dead before downloading onto your computer.

Yes, it probably chose that time if you were indeed idle by then. Otherwise you might be busy on the scheduled time and even past that. ;) Read the "only when I'm not using my computer option". :)

Reading what versions they're releasing (well, maybe not the leaked supposedly, but... :D), I can see that mine is not updated to the latest. Will still manually reinstall to ensure I'm running the most stable or recent release. :)

I had the "only when I'm not using my computer option" box unchecked before the scan started. It's really no big deal I guess.

I read this in the off line help.....

Next to the Around field, select the time that you want the scheduled scan to run.

Note that you're selecting around a certain time rather than at a specific time. This is because the scan may not begin promptly at a certain time, for example, 2 A.M. if something else is currently running on your computer (like an update).

I didn't notice it, but the scheduled scan finished as I was typing the last two posts. I opened the MSE GUI, and there is nothing there showing a scan took place. As much as I like MSE, I certainly think that is a flaw. Just my personal opinion. Maybe they'll change it in future builds. At least I hope so.

I am going to stick with the leaked version if it is a newer build.

The newest build is the one MS puts out today. I wouldn't rely on interpreting the numbers.

Seems to run fine but pretty high memory usage. The 2 processes take up about 70m of ram. Not much by todays standards. Seems Micro$oft always pushes the limit with memory. I'll keep it on and see how it goes.

It should die down. Mine avg between 30-40 meg most of the time. Still heavy considering how light some of the other AVs are these days (comodo, Norton, Avira, etc.)

I think it is alot by today's standards.
Consider most of the top AV's and suites that use less then half of that.
My running software does't use that much and I trust mine alot more then anything MS could put out.
Granted some of what I use are paid versions.
For free I'd use Avira, onLine Armor free and GesWall as an example. There are others.
Lite and Effective and I'm sure-better protection.
    MS-maybe next time. :)

    'MsMpEng.exe' 100,104KB here.

Maybe MS could revive an old TV show...

    MsMpEng.exe at 32,456k right now

The quick scan only took 40 minutes, but didn't find anything and the full scan was running for over 2 hours before I stopped it and found 2 things. There's very few things you can do with the settings other than the basics. I hope they add more features.

I don't think there is really need for "more stuff". It's easy to use, it does it's job, what else do you need? And since they're targeting casual users, they are going for the most easy way to use it. And even though i like settings and tweaks, i like MSE a lot exactly because of it's simplicity. It just works and you just can't do anything wrong with it. And thats the main point of it.
I really don't want it to turn into a massive bloat of settings and options.
    No need for that.

For those who were wondering what is Microsoft's motivation for launching WSE a.k.a Morro, here is what MS blog states:
