The fact that it has heuristics is definitely a plus IMO.:thumb:

Good to hear. Please see if you can find out any more information, e.g. new features and so on. Wanna know that first before giving it a shot as it indeed is beta software and that I'd blue-screen even in safe-mode on my previous installation, which was today. Don't think it was 360 alone though...

Interesting...A conflict probably caused the BSOD. As for a changelog; it would just be a list of bug fixes. Nothing new has been added besides change of colours in the GUI ;)

Okay, think I'll wait a bit longer. ;) Next version should probably have everything sorted out and hopefully new features as well. :)

I have IObit 1.1 on and its smooth, but how well does it protect?

It updated automatically yesterday - took 5 secs - its smooth.

Reported a supposed false in a "send feedback" - mail a couple of days ago, but only an automated answer sofar and update didnt correct it.

Had PrevX on but it slowed me down and I read some posts that its protectionrate was questioned.

There isnt much action at IObit forum. This thread doesnt cause anything near the action that PrevX thread caused. Will IObit 360 die here and now?

    Any comments?

    Best Regards

It is FAR from dying :p IObit have big plans for this product, they want it to be able to compete with some very strong antimalware products, so they are working very hard.

Also, remember that this is the first release Beta 1, so it is very new to the market (free market that is :D).

Security 360 has a lot of definitions (approx 104,000 at the current time, and it is growing by 1,000-2,000 every day) and probably 1/4 of those hardly anyone (1 or 2 vendors, sometimes even none) detect. It also detects the high circulating malware which others may miss. Detections are also removed once they seem to be out of circulation or all vendors detect it. Security 360 is there for the unknown or high circulating ;)

Prevx is a completely different product, it uses behavior detection + blacklist, and it is very good at what it does. It has also been around for a very long time compared to Security 360 (1-2 weeks ;)) So give Security 360 a chance :thumb:

Dont worry its on - mainly because I like the interface and it claims to have some functions that free Antivir doesnt have - if I understand correctly - and no slowdown.

How do you mean you know how many detections IObit has made? Is it phoning home to report what happens on my computer? I have no outbound control - ditched Outpost a while back - so I cant see if it does.

    Best Regards

I meant how many definitions** (getting tired :p) in it's database. ;) When you scan, if you look in the bottom left you will see how many definitions the database has :)

If you only have 100.000 we will have to hope that your heuristic function is good - really good.

I am an amateur and have heard about Buffer Overflow attacks - does IObit protect from such an attack?

Does IObit protect start-up so that it warns me if something suspicious tries to autostart?

    No phoning home then?

    Best Regards

Heuristics are, as far as I know, quite good. Please remember, if IObit wanted to become the next big AV they would have to have 5,000,000+ signatures. But for what Security 360 is, which is similar to MBAM, it does not need 5,000,000+ signatures. 100,000 is more then enough at any given time + the heuristics.

Buffer Overflows are not prevented unless the malicious program tried to access kernel objects or acquire ring-0 privileges through drivers and services. It is a VERY basic HIPS.

Yes, it does protect start-up, and IObit are currently working on it to improve the protection in those areas (vital system areas).

No, there is no phoning home. Everything stays on your computer, except the malware :)

Free as a bird, assuming that the bird isn't locked up in a cage and fed dog food. :D

    You caged it :( :p

All jokes aside, I hope you enjoy it. It's quite a nifty little tool to use if you are ever infected. Helps when your friends are infected too :argh:

    Halfevil,

Any chance of adding MBR and Direct disk access, as well as system shutdown in the HIPS component?

    Thx

I shall ask, but sending in some feedback would give it a nice push too :D

@ssj: The scan speed will only be improved in V2 which is expected for next year. It will be fully recoded and everything. Big improvements expected ;)

Probably has a bunch of people downloading it, and updating it. Kinda like what happened to ESET v4. Couldn't get updates for a while.

When you select update and it fails (unable to connect to web server) if you select Next 360 is caught in a loop of trying to update when its not possible. If 360 is unable to update, it should not allow a user to hit "Next" but should instead say "try again later" and upon selecting "OK" the update module quits. Just a thought.

    I observed that here too.
That's a good idea that IObit should consider.:thumb:
