Does NOD32 Scan For Rootkits?

Hello. I just installed NOD32 Antivirus 4 trial version. Does NOD32 check for rootkits in its full system scans?

 

Yes, Eset doesn't separate out rootkits as an option for on demand scans like some other AVs do. As far as I know they aren't classified as PUAs so having signatures and heuristics enabled should detect them.

 

Thanks ronjor and flyrfan111. One more question. Is NOD32's Anti-Stealth Technology enabled by default, or do I have to enable it somewhere in the setup? I looked in up in the Help file, but it just explains what Anti-Stealth Technology is.

 

Everything you need to stay protected is enabled by default.

Enabling potentially unsafe application might cause problems in networks as it might remove software used for remote administration or other potentially unsafe software utilized by admins for legit purposes.

 

In which case I have all those admin tools in a directory which I have excluded from scanning and keep potentially unsafe enabled.

 

Since installing the trial version of NOD32 4.0, I've been reading some reviews. Most all of the reviews praise NOD32's antivirus portion, but say the antispyware portion is not up to par with other AVs. Is NOD32's antispyware portion really not so good? Do I need to run another spyware or malware program like superantispyware or malwarebytes to compensate?

 

The general advice I have heard is that you should have _at least_ one anti-spyware tool, and preferably more because no one tool can catch all spyware.

I never saw nod32 score very high for anti-spyware in the various rankings I have seen, so I knew I was only buying it as an AV tool.

The two programs you mentioned seem well respected here. Also good (and free) is Windows Defender from the MS website.

Personally, I rely on Webroot SpySweeper (not free) as my primary spyware tool, and ZoneAlarm Pro's included spyware feature is my secondary.

 

I personally highly recommend Prevx alongside nod32 since they are fully compatible with each other.
