Changing Foxit as the default PDF reader should be enough. But I don't see why you'd want to keep Adobe anyway.

well I did say before the reason why I was still using defense wall and that I was thinking of dumping it for shadow defender or deep freeze.

in some ways I consider shadow defender to be a Sandbox only much better than sandboxie because it is a whole system wide sandbox which covers everything instead of just limited to a few programs.

The other good thing about using shadow defender or returnil or deep freeze is that it prevents the build up of hidden activity records and keeps your OS at a CLEAN FRESH INSTALL STATUS.

I know you are not a big fan of signature based anti-virus,and I bet that
if you gave Returnil Premium a try along side of Sandboxie, you might say goodbye to AV.
It does not get a lot more usable than this.
Thank "no more AV update guff."

    Yes.
I suppose A big attraction for this set-up for me is being on a "marginal" system.
    The resource use is tiny.
But I do keep Prevx free onboard, just in case I do pick something up.

    I understand:
"1. As Kees has said before, to prevent infection transferring across to another user's system if I was to connect via eg. LAN."

that's why I went through the hoops of getting Clam on my Ubuntu installation.
An infected file tends to chap friends off pretty good.

And what if you have zero day infected files, or infected files that your AV doesn't detect? how are you going to stop them from transferring onto your friends pc during lans? or Vice versa.

Brings us back to the Supreme Performance of MD's file and folder rules.

Modify files on friends pc ACCESS DENY
Create files on friends pc ACCESS DENY
Read files on friends pc ACCESS DENY
Delete files on friends pc ACCESS DENY

I think even comodo can do this?

Well, I continue to run very light and with no problems to report.

    Running Win 7 RC
Running behind standard user account (password necessary)
    UAC turned on Vista level
    DEP on all programs
    Windows Defender
    Firefox 3.5 preview (Adblock Plus)

Have Paragon 9 for system image as well as a sys. image from Windows Backup.

Occassionally install antivir free to run scans, then completely restore image if all is well.

Data saved to USB hard drive and or DVDs.

How is Paragon working with Win 7? Any problems with restoring from image?
(btw. You use 32bit or 64bit version?)

I've had zero problems with Paragon 9 Personal Backup and Windows 7 RC. It worked well with the Win 7 beta too. It's been great to have such a dependable sys. imaging program. So far I've had two external hard drives and both have been recognized by rescue disk.

In fact, it's worked great with XP Pro and Vista HP too. It's not the fastest or slowest but it's there when you need it.

I will also say that Windows 7 imaging has also been quite reliable and pretty quick. :thumb:

Yes Paragon is a mighty fine imaging prog.Have you tried a bare metal restore with it yet (if that capability is in your version),it's something I keep meaning to try?

I'm trying Avast free + Prevx + Outpost Pro (still have 78 days on my subscription,) because Avira Premium with Outpost caused consistent lockups when user access control alerts came on (happened once a day.)

Current set up, on Vista Business 32 (SP1) laptop:

    - Widows Firewall (inbound only)
    - Opera mainly in deny mode, ie all goodies switched off by default (and with IE7 for occasional other use)
    - UAC Standard user / SRP / DEP / Autorun fully disengaged
    - Sandboxie, for surfing only
    - Regularly patched
    - Regular back up of data / systems to different locations, for when the software and / or hardware fails

For me, the most important security of all is the "not clicking" mentality.. Key risk exposures are surfing (research), USB sticks, and e-mails, either Outlook or other web mail accounts..

Hence, the key focus to the above is:
    a) don't be conned into running it, and
    b) if I do try to run it by accident, the white list / default deny approach should prevent it...

    I also have:
    - NOD V3
    - Super Ad Blocker for IE7 for the ads (also runs SAS live throughout), separate ad-list for Opera
    - Windows Defender (without sub to Spynet)

The black list products have still to come up with an alert, other than an occasional FP, and the key requirement for those is simply that they are light and cooperative.

    Thx..:)
It also runs pretty smoothly.. As I am not regularly installing software, SRP + UAC Standard user is virtually no day to day hassle or downside at all..

As others have said, generally regard the F/W, autorun / browswers in deny mode, and "don't click" to be the main "keep it off the machine" tools, with SRP / UAC etc then being the preventative safety net for when or if it gets too close...

    I've got another question. lol

If you use Sandboxie and you're on a site and you want to save a picture, how do you do that safely?

After reading this thread, I'm going with this setup:

    Linkysis Router
    KIS 2009
    Previx
Firefox 3.0.11 with adblock,no script and WOT

    On Demand:
    Dr. Cureit
    A-squared
    Malwarebytes
    SUPERantispyware
    Panda Online Scanner

I'm interested in trying sandboxie, but like I mentioned above, I'm a little confused on how to save pictures and/or files on my hard drive when using it.
I understand that sandboxie would save them first but before I give them the OK to save to the hard drive, should I run a virus check or anything?

Also, if I'm downloading transactions from online banks to Quicken, how would I do that?
