I do not use PrevX (i have a license but i feel that i don't need this app right now), now trialing Eaz-Fix, so far so good. I will take into account your opinion about a 'sister' product - Rollback Rx.

Just using Sandboxie, Windows Firewall, and Common Sense.

For Firefox: NoScript and Adblock Plus.

 

Never tried RollBack RX but have had 3 licenses for EAZ-FIX for 2 years now.
Had the 8.1 version but just upgraded one license to the 9. version.
Between my son and myself EAZ-FIX has not failed us yet.
Worthwhile investment.

removed comodo antivirus to much false positives

note:very happy and impress with this 3 security programs and no need more

 

Removed DefenseWall and PrevX.

I found the results posted in PrevX website to be too biased and dumbfounded.

Still thinking of buying a license for DW, but having second thoughts since I already have lifetime licenses for Sandboxie and Outpost

it is not overkill when you have 3 or more computers i have defensewall alone in wife's pc in my son's pc i have sandboxie and in mine i have sandboxie and malware defender

 

DefenseWall tackles all your problems relating Internet facing aps.

Use Malware Defender only for Registry and Internet Access, set the application protection to log, only set ask for: direct disk access, direct memeory access, direct regsistry access, direct keyboard access and system shutdown.

Add Avira free with check on write only when you are not using SBIE (you are going to throw the files away, so need to scan them).

DW and MD (with lightened rule set) will provide protection. DW for all nterne facing aps, MD on anomolies (it will protect enough to not get owned by an rootkit).

When you use SBIE, disable Avira Guard, When not enable the guard.

On my desktop I am now running (while having a lisence of both MD and A2 with IDS):
- DW
- IObit 360 beta
- AVira set to check at write only.

What I like about A2 (paid)

a) dual scanning engine and high detection
b) IDs which is a behavior blocker lying close to a traditional HIPS, is just a tad behind TF. Classical HIPS users like the IDS (Mamuto) over ThreatFire, because it is more an intelligent HIPS than a behaviour blocker (when intelligent false reduction is off).


What I do not like
c) Internet module produces to much pop-ups
d) their implementation to run in LUA environment(when you don't you still have an extra A2 service running)

Tough decision to make.
If you have a backup and can keep from trying everything, then no, you probably really don't need it.

But, if you like trying different software or upgrades, it just makes things so easy.
Those programs that don't install or work right or won't uninstall can be fixed in basically the time it takes to reboot your computer.

I think I got hooked on this type of software when I used to use the old GoBack software many years ago.

Please! I was read that Zemana has light system control also...does it detect and popup alerts of any new registry write,modify or delete ,or in other sensitive areas of windows ? Or maybe only alerts the real risk changes by not known applications ?

Just an update and question for everyone. I installed Defensewall and Previx. So, my setup is as follows:

Defensewall
Previx
Kaspersky Security Suite
Firefox with no script, adblock and WOT

The problem I have had is that once I installed Defensewall(the last thing installed), my internet connection didn't go much slower but when I would save pictures/files or open numerous tabs in Firefox, my system would slow down considerably. Example would be, I would right click on a picture to save, and it would take several seconds(more than usual) to save it and sometimes the system would hang for a couple of seconds.

I have 1.5 GB of Ram and running a Dell Dimension 4600, which is 6 years old, so I was wondering what opinions would be on why it does this and/or what could be done about it, if anything.

Right Now, I'm just running previx,KAS and Firefox and wondering if that would be enough since Defensewall seems to slow down the computer so much?

Yes, that's enough as long as you have common sense and practice safe surfing practices. It would also be helpful if you switch from IE and Adobe Reader to alternatives such as Firefox and Foxit. And of course you should have an image backup program.

I am very happy with this free setup. I experimented with a lot of free software and have settled on this.

 

On the Desktop (E5200@3,06 GHZ, 2GB RAM, XP Pro)
- OutpostFW free: HIPS setttings: component control off, critical system components on: other direct disk access, direct network access, process termination, driver load and key-logging OFW is a real good FW, just wanted to play with IObit360 a little more
- Router + Windows FW

- DefenseWall (added some user space registry files in the resource protection part, ran all internet facing aps to allow + remember, then de-selected resource protection messages)

- IObit369 Beta (realtime + advanced on, no file protection)

- Avira Free 9: set to check on writes only (smart extentions) with heuristics high, set scan to handle without user interaction with optimised scan + check on rootkits, installed with secure service loading

- Keyscrambler free for IE8

Online banking + Shopping = IE8, other browsing = Chromium

 

If you are using KIS, particularly the latest 2010 version, you do not need Prevx or DW.

If you are keen on DW, contact Ilya, via the forum or email, about your slowdown problem. He will probably ask you for some logs to look at.

I am a great believer in lean setups so I would suggest one of the following;

1. Just run KIS (KIS 2010 in particular, even though not in final release form).
2. DefenseWall +KAV relegated to just an on-demand scanner.
3. DW + Prevx.

 

Hi, if you have default AV scanner checking Firefox files enabled this can add a few seconds to saving file/pic the process.

To disable.

1. Type about:config in the Firefox address bar
2. find browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone
3. Set the parameter to False

You simply reverse the parameter to True.

 

I downloaded Foxit and checked it as being the default PDF reader. Do I need to uninstall Adobe or will changing the default be enough?

Im using Firefox already, so I have that covered.

Sorry for absence, been in process of moving for weeks and i am anxious to get back in here full tilt again as soon as humanly possibly.

The old throwback Trust-No-Exe is made a another dent in malware pushers. Heck this old app stops the layest Virut and any other file infector virus not to mention rootkits and such. Old good apps never die, they just keep biting creepos foul programming releases with ease and simplicity.

It's very akin to faronic's AE i found.

Hope to be back here full tilt before end of summer and if i get my way sooner then that, but all my huge collections of PC's, attachments, wires, and such are boxed up right now.

as in my sig. I Have now removed defense wall and added Shadow Defender. after configuring MD's rules to the max defense wall became irrelevant.

I never thought i would go with Shadow Defender myself but i certainly have done just that on two of my units before i boxed them up for moving, and found it's surprisingly simple and best of all for me perfectly stable, so it stays so long as it continues to prove it can stand up to the traffic. LoL
