None of our work stations can access Filemaker Server on the server unless ESET's firewall on the server is completely disabled. SO THE QUESTION: How should I set up the firewall to allow Filemaker's traffic? Here's our set up: Server = Late model Dell business tower running Windows XP with latest updates (not a "real" server, then, but in a small biz...). Work stations = Late model Dell business desktops running Windows XP (all up to date). The work stations are connected to the server via router.
Hello markomus, When running a server, it is reccomended to not have a firewall installed. However, you can always add the port you need open to the firewall or the easiest way would be to turn on Interactive Mode in the ESET firewall settings and then allow the things that you need and then switch to policy mode after.
Hi, I must not be looking in the right place but neither the user manual, http://download.eset.com/manuals/ESET_ESS4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf or this Knowledge Base Article, "What are the recommended settings for an ESET security solution installed on a server? (4.0)" mention that. The only thing I could find was this, in small print on the download page. "Note About Using ESET Smart Security on Servers: ESET Smart Security contains a firewall which inspects all network traffic on a computer. If installed on a computer which performs many network transactions such as database or file activities, these applications may slow down until excluded in the firewall." The reasoning is if you have a server, it must be set up to accept unsolicited traffic, which therefore negates the purpose of a firewall which is block unsolicited traffic.
