I have ATI Home 09 and I am going to use the System Clean-up utilities. I want to have the most secure clean hard drive. What should i choose in the data destruction method? What should I choose other than fast?

If you want to waste a lot of time probably Gutman's method since it does 35 passes. In real life the fastest is probably good enough unless you are concerned about a government spy agency recovering the data. What you do want to check is that it indeed did wipe the entire drive. Years ago when disks were crossing what were "size boundaries" and not all programs and machines supported the newer disks it was not unheard of to find some parts of the disk had never been accessed by the wiping program. I would say this is much less likely now.

In addition to Seekforevers response, Disk wiping if it uses random data, 2 passes is sufficient for the average home user.

    (1) Other than the fastest method what is the next best two methods.
    (2) How many passes do those two do?
    (3) How long will it take for those two to do a 320 Gb drive that is about 1/3 full?

    Hello devolic,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image Home 2009

You can see description of wiping methods used by Acronis with number of passes in user guide Appendix C. use the following link

Note that frequent hard drive wipe can reduce its life. I may recommend you to use not more than 10 passes while wiping.

    Best regards,
