    Hi,

Is it possible to use an image made on an external USB hardrive using Image true 9.1 to clone the OS and data to an entirely new PC (fairly different hardware)?

My situation is that I have an image created using Image True 9.1 on USB ext HDD and now my computer has been stolen. I have bought a new PC and want to restore the OS/Programs/User accounts and Data to the new PC to as greater extent as is possible.

Has anyone got any idea if? or how much of this is possible?

    Cheers

    Nick

It is possible, no problem with TI, that what it is made for. Your problem will be with Windows because it will spit the dummy big time if it finds itself with so much new harware and not the hardware it was on. I,ve heard of it being done with some fancy tool from Microsoft but do not remember its name, perhaps you could search their site. A clean install is your best option, sorry.

    Hello Nick,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

You can use Acronis True Image Echo Workstation with Acronis Universal Restore for your purposes.

Acronis True Image Echo Workstation has a feature such as Acronis Universal Restore. Acronis Universal Restore provides an efficient solution for restoration of a hardware-independent system by replacing the crucial HAL and hard disk controller drivers. In the case of motherboard and CPU change the replacement of the crucial HAL is necessary.

Acronis Universal Restore is an optional program feature.

Please see the article Transferring Windows to Dissimilar Hardware for more information.

What is the exact version of the program? Is this a Home version or a Corporate version? We should avoid product version incompatibility.

Acronis guarantees one-version-back compatibility for different versions of the same product. This means that current product version will work with backups created with one-generation-older version.

E.g. Acronis True Image Home 2009 will work with backups created by Acronis True Image 11 Home. Restoring backups created by older versions (Acronis True Image 9.0 and older) is also possible, but error-free data recovery is not guaranteed.

Acronis does not guarantee that images created with a newer build of the product will be supported by older builds. This means that restoring an image created with Acronis True Image Build 8206 may fail with Acronis True Image Build 8165.

Acronis also guarantees backup compatibility for different Acronis True Image products within the same version.

E.g. Acronis True Image Echo Workstation will work with backups created by Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows.

Acronis does not guarantee backup compatibility for Acronis True Image products that are not within the same version.

E.g. Acronis True Image Echo Workstation may not work with backups created by Acronis True Image Home 2009.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for your help.

I had a little trouble with windows (2K) giving errors when discovering new hardware.

I managed to get around most of that by booting windows in safe mode and installing chipset and graphics drivers. Windows booted and discovered the rest of the hardware without too much trouble after that.

Very happy with Acronis Home 2009 restoring image created by Acronis True image 9.1

    Thanks again.

    Nick
