Well, everyone has a viewpoint so it is time to see if the majority fall into the positive, neutral or negative side of website interpretation.

The following has a poll attached and a chance to see where all of this heads.

Poll Question. Have you been influenced and how by the comparisions and opinions by Prevx on their website of other vendors products.

When symantec stated their 2009 line was fastest and best .... Almost all 3rd party testers validated the same.

But for Prevx, there are not so many credible expert sources pitching that they indeed provide better 0-day protection than other AV vendors. So I am put off by their vehement chest beating, if PrevX is indeed so incredible get it reviewed/tested/compared by many many more sources. Beating your drum, doesn't really make a BIG impression.

I am not influenced either way. I am sure they do catch things others miss, just as I am sure others catch things that they miss.

    Indeed you are right....
I am also not influenced either way......
Prevx might detect lot of things, but what was a big minus: was huge amount of false positives it gives. I have a huge database of legitimate software in my HDD and it detects a large number of them as false postives, so I uninstalled it completely. It makes me feel ambiguous whether the file, it detects is really a malwareo_Oo_O?

Well philby, just because you and I see it that way doesn't mean that the marketing doesn't influence some people to buy the software who might not have done so otherwise or that it doesn't turn some people off to the product altogether.

That sentiment about false positives is the exact reason I won't use or recommend to friends another anti-malware program (which I won't name here) that usually gets top marks in detection but also tends toward many FPs. To me it is almost as important to identify harmless files correctly as it is to identify harmful ones correctly. A wrongly identified file which a user allows a program to remove can gum up the works too. Granted most of the time programs allow a user to restore a file from quarantine but many less experienced users will either delete the file altogether once it is identified as bad or they won't have a clue which file of several that were removed they should restore and which they shouldn't.

I am not influenced by the website at all. As with most marketing, I assume it is skewed to present its backer in the most favorable light.

I cant see the point of this thread, other than to serve as a soap box for the minority with an axe to grind.

Some members here have got a real problem with Prevx listing malware they have caught that specific AMs have missed - even when the vendor has a detailed explanation as to whaat the data means.

For the enlightened and educated, there can be no problem with Prevx posting this data as it is a statement of fact - backed up by evidence.

Malwarebytes get their developers / employees to come here and state that "MBAM catches the malware the AVs misss" - when there is no evidence for this - and in fact all the evidence that there is, shows exactly the opposite and yet NOBODY pulls them up on this.

It is clearly a case that this forum is being taken over by people with a hidden aganda - and the whole site is becoming a far less valuable resource as a concequence.

No need to take on Malware Bytes when you're defending Prevx.Belive what you want .There is plenty eveidence regarding MBAM effectivness on "cleaning forums"even on various AV's forums. But this also has been debated in numerous threads here.

    Hi,

I mentioned MBAM as they state (without any criticism here) that they catch what the AV vendors miss and yet they present no eveidnce of this. Prevx list the malware on their site that they have complete proof they catch which specific named AVs miss - and yet they get criticised for it.

So... one vendor makes a claim and yet has no evidence at all to substanciate it and is given a pat on the back, whilst aanother vendor rigorously lists specific malware it catches that named AVs miss - and the usual "members" here get all upset about it.

The fact of the matter is, this site is getting a bad reputation in the AM community and the admins need to sort it out before it loses its final shred of credibility.

Not really influenced by the Prevx website. I bought it after following the long discussion here, the review by Matt at remove-malware and downloading and running a trial version. Joe was nice enough to give me a seven-day license to trial the full working version. Also, by the excellent support that they have given.

    It doesn't influence me.
    Prevx is a good program.
The only downside that I can see to their stats is the false positives.

I've not been influenced by the stats provided on their website. They don't make me feel I should be using PrevX on its own or in tandem with another AV.

In fact, a recent test I did with PrevX showed a clear result on my system, and that was after scanning with AVIRA and Kaspersky separately that also gave zero results. In other words, none of them reported malware on my computer at that time.

    Not influenced in the least.

Don't understand what the fuss is all about. Ofcourse it is marketting.
When you put another vendor in the spotlight you'll find the same.

Main thing is: does Prevx works for you or does not it. On my rig it does a great job :thumb:  and I love the quick scan of this program.

Till now I only had one FP.

Prevx is on the moment my main scanner. For the following months I will do a double check once a month with good ol' Dr.Web & Counterspy.

actually if you look at the total not influenced or on the positive side of their website the score is 55-16, which is about what I figured when I posted this. Basically it is saying that most just dont give a ~snip~ what is on the website and judge the product itself and the job it does. Those few that have issues with the website, well, probaly have issues with themselves also.:cautious:
